Am I the only one thinks this match isn't going to happen? No, there are several of us who do. However, even HINTING that the match isn't going to happen will get shouted down by those who take a 30 second clip at the Rumble (Which they've done several times in the past, btw, without leading to big matches), some made up NEWZZZ from the dirtsheets, and turned it into absolute Gospel. Sadly, it seems to be somewhat of a growing trend on this board. The same thing happened to Christian. Everybody insisted he was going to be thrust into the main event immediately upon his return, and absolutely REFUSED to listen to anything pointing to the contrary. Steve Austin gets similar treatment -- people insist he's going to be in a match at WM25, despite the fact that multiple sources have said he's in no shape to compete, and they've done NOTHING to indicate it's even an option. This. I remember the NEWZ sheets virtually guaranteeing the fact that the Undertaker's Wrestlemania 21 match would be with Kane in a tag match against Heidenreich and Snitsky, based on much bigger interraction at the Rumble. Plus, 'Taker's in rough shape. I'm actually predicting a throw-away match to keep the streak alive -- maybe vs. someone like Koslov or Umaga, with 'Taker's big retirement match next year. You know what, Taker v Umaga would be ideal. We all know how great a worker Umaga has become, but on the big stage of WM , his matches have been lackluster in comparison with his other work. Putting him against Taker, who raises his game come WM time, may just be great business for the WWE in the long run. And Umaga should be booked as strong enough to take the streak, but not actually take it.

They would do it because it's a match people would pay to see. So if they are going o do it, it would make more sense to do it on a PPV that isnt necessarily a sellout, and won't necessarily have huge buyrates. Unless the whole card blows, Wrestlemania sells itself.

My biggest issue with this whole thing is that people are asking why instead of why not? Will HBK/Taker be that troublesome to produce? The match hypes itself. And yes, I'm incredibly biased towards my dislike of both JBL and this stupid storyline so take that as you will. Considering that both men are in the twilight of their careers, I don't see why WWE would not take the opportunity that's presented in front of them before it's too late to do so. My problem isn't the match itself. I'd like to see HBK/Taker again. And I'm not saying that there's no chance that they'll do it. I'm just saying that one 30 second random clip and a whole bunch of wishful thinking does not mean that the match is a lock. That's where my problem is. Some people are so hellbent on having HBK/Taker at WM25 that they (a) insist that the match is a 100% lock based on one otherwise irrelevant, random promo, and (b) absolutely refuse to believe otherwise, or even listen to reason. I'm not saying the match isn't going to happen. I don't think it will, but it's not out of the realm of possibilities, either. All I'm saying is that they have given us absolutely NO reason to believe the match is going to take place yet, and at this point, HBK/Taker is nothing more than wishful thinking. As I've said before, there's been a disturbing trend on this board lately to take whatever the dirtsheets say (most of which is completely made up guesswork), blow it way out of proportion, treat it as gospel, and shout down anybody who tries to inject logic into the conversation. It was (and still is) done with Christian, it was/is done with Austin, and it's being done with HBK/Taker. Some people need to re-learn the fact that "personal fantasy booking + dirtsheet gossip =/= WWE'S booking plans". I get what you're saying, and I agree to an extent. I just feel, that in this one particular case, I don't see where WWE is going but HBK/Taker. Those one or two segments look out of nowhere and thrown together, but perhaps that's the whole point. We'll just have to wait and see.

It's Wrestlemania because of matches like that.

Those one or two segments look out of nowhere and thrown together, but perhaps that's the whole point. We'll just have to wait and see. I can't say anything about what they could do with 'Taker. Haven't watched SD in weeks, so I don't even know what storylines (if any) he's involved in right now. As for HBK, there's always the possibility of HBK/JBL II, depending on how their current storyline plays out. IMO, this is the most likely scenario, as I doubt they'll have spent so much time and effort building up such a high profile program between two top stars just for a single match at a filler PPV. There's also HBK/Jericho as a possibility. They seem to be going somewhere with Jericho/Flair. I hope this won't lead to a match between the two, which would tarnish last year's sendoff. Which means Jericho vs someone with Flair in their corner is the next most likely possibility. One of the most logical choices would be the guy who retired Flair in the first place -- HBK. I think those are the two most likely scenarios. Again, HBK/Taker is a possibility, but I'm going based on what information we already have available to us. And right now, more seeds have been planted for a possible HBK/Jericho or HBK/JBL match than have been for HBK/Taker. Random skits happen all the time. As said by someone else above, they teased the Brothers of Destruction vs. Snitsky/Heidenreich for WM21 by a similar Royal Rumble skit. That match obviously didn't happen. CM Punk had a random skit with Candice Michelle on Raw. I highly doubt that he's going to defend the IC belt against her any time soon. A random skit, even among big name wrestlers, does not always lead to a big name feud. Sometimes, it's just that -- a random skit.

Surely from a sensible point of view the WWE would want both hometown legends to give the crowd something to go home happy about. Putting them in a match together means one would lose. John Cena vs Shawn Micheals So you break up the HBK/Taker match because one of them would have to lose and put HBK in a match with Cena instead? Well who else is Cena going to defend the title against? Orton is a bit McMahon busy.

It's Wrestlemania because of matches like that. True, but there are many people HBK can have a great match with, and there are enough new matches for Taker against legitimate streak threateners for there to be two great matches instead of one. So you break up the HBK/Taker match because one of them would have to lose and put HBK in a match with Cena instead? Well who else is Cena going to defend the title against? Orton is a bit McMahon busy. Kane? It might not sound a five star classic, but it's new, and not every WM title match is made up to be a big deal (see also Triple H v Booker T, Cena v JBL) But it's early days. Last year's star attraction (Big Show v Floyd Mayweather) started at No Way Out with two guys who weren't even part of the WWE at that point. Hell, I'm almost well up for the fact that whilst the murmurings of Wrestlemania are starting, nothing is set in stone.

And all this talk started because Taker said Hi to HBK at the Royal Rumble Actually, people have been speculating a WM match between the two since the road to Wrestlemania 23.

Because what's the alternative? HBK vs JBL? That's a giant waste of a WM match. I don't care about how *deep* their storyline is, this simply IS NOT a WM caliber match. As for Taker, that's a bit trickier. I'll have to wait after NWO to see what they'll do with him. I agree completely. I've always kind of liked JBL and his style but right now he should be putting people over. EIther losing in matches, managing them to get them over or praising them on commentary.

If Rourke is pulling out I think Jericho may face the Undertaker I think it Rourke was really out they'd have stopped mentioning him. I also think Jericho/Taker would be a very lackluster match that would require Taker selling a lot of moves that he normally wouldn't.

Ok just a few things to say.
- I know that all WM matches are not WM matches, but BUT there is one man who ALWAYS ALWAYS has a great match at WM and that is HBK. I was furious when he faced Vince at WM 22 and even though i loved that match, you have to agree it one of Shawns less great matches at WM. JBL has that same feel.
- I agree with another post that said HBK can face a list of great people and you can have Taker vs Umaga. Yeah if it was HBK vs CM Punk i would mark like CRAZY! And say Jericho vs Taker hell i would be down for those two matches. BUT i do not want to see HBK vs JBL at WM.... unless...
- at No Way Out some how HBK/JBL pull out a great match. I am glad they are testing the waters at No Way Out first. If that match is great my fears will be lifted and i will have no problem with that match at WM.
- I bet after the oscars ( which i am telling ya Sean Penn is beating Rourke) Rourke will be back in. It is all about the Oscars taht is my guess.
- Everyone should keep one fact in mind. Night of Champs i believe is in Shawn's home town. IF i am a correct on that fact, then i fully expect HBK to get a title shot at NOC. So i don't see Cena vs HBK happening at WM this year.
- You will not find a person who loved the Jericho/HBK feud more then me, i had 4 of there 5 PPV matches on my top 10 last year, however i just don't want to see another match with them at WM this year.... even thought it would be FANTASTIC!
- And to hammer home a point from eariler since WM 19 HBK has faced Jericho, Triple/Beniot, Angle, Vince, Cena, Flair which name doesn't belong there. i would much rather see Taker in the next slot then JBL, hell i would be happy to see CM Punk, Morrison, Koffi or even Mike Knox over JBL!

I know that it's unpopular here but, I still hope the blow off to JBL/HBK is at Mania. Have them go nuts on each other Sunday and have a hardcore (hell, make it a Texas Deathmatch) at Mania.
I think Taker faces Kozlov at Mania given that they are both in the Chamber at NWO and Kozlov will probably be undefeated come Mania.

I keep saying this I am tired of people giving the same excuses for wanting HBK/Taker. They both are from Texas, and it'll be a battle of streak Vs Mr Wrestlemania. Well, I don't find HBK to be 'Mr. Wrestlemania'. I give that honor to Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, or probably the Undertaker This is pretty much the aftershock of people wanting a match similar to Angle/HBK or HBK/Flair. But this one doesn't do it for me, due to the last few fights these 2 were in, they were at the peak of their careers. Watching it 11 years later, would just remind me of of a shallow reminder of what they were. Granted, I'm huge fans of both, but it can't overshadow the wrestling classics they created in 97-98
You know what would be an amazing WM match? Taker/Jericho. Jericho could expose Taker as the fraud he is, and claim Taker's streak is merely a number, and how all his opponents have pretty much been jobbers for the majoirty of it. The possibilities for this could be endless

Undertaker vs. HBK...Why would they do this? Simple. They likely wouldn't. People just keep hamfisting reasons it'll happen because otherwise the illusion of their little dream card is shattered and they'll be forced to see reality. We all want Taker/HBK, but really. It's not happening. No, it doesn't. We already covered that base. It means nothing.
