Why was the stipulation here?
They built Vaders face up to be smashed in, but then it wasn't. Was it just for added build to the match? I remember even as a primary school kid thinking this seemed odd, and my friend campagned to me about how Vaders face was all smashed in, but of course it was just normal.
The match was nothing but the ending was hilarious! IT'S TIME! IT'S TIME! IT'S PAUL BEARER TIME!
Anybody remember this match, and know the reasoning about this stipulation?

Yes, I remember the match... if people only remembered that he took off his mask during the Final Four match in 97, this may not have happened.
Also, I'm surprised that the whole eye-pop-out thing with Hansen didn't permanently scar him.

I can't remember exactly what the whole story was, but given Vader's JTTS status in WWF by then, it just seemed to be a way to to put over Kane more by having him beat another big monster in order to keep him and Undertaker apart until WM14. I think the mask match was probably more to add intrigue around what was behind Kane's mask more than Vader's (if you remember the original backstory of Undertaker thinking Kane had been killed in a fire as a child).
It wasn't much loss to Vader anyway, since he used to take his mask off all the time during his WCW run.
Edit: Oh yeah and in Final Four as well.
