Looking at the release schedule it almost feels like summer is already over. Sure there's Transformers this month and I suppose Harry Potter in July, but something really feels off at this year in terms of movies for some reason. Where's "4th of July special FX movie staring Will Smith" for example or at least something in that vain? There really seems to be no reason Terminator and Night at the Museum went up against each other, there seems to be nothing terribly familiar to either one in blocks of programing, Terminator should June 12th or maybe July 24th or something or really July 4th, seems pretty apt. I dunno, maybe it's just after Star Trek, Wolverine, and Terminator the rest of the season looks a little too non sci fi/comicbookish to feel like Summer to me.

You have to make the money as soon as possible, that's why they're mainly slotted around (American) Memorial Day.
Personally, I'm waiting for "Public Enemies", the Johnny Depp movie where he plays John Dillinger. That will be out the first week of July, in time for Independence Day. (Not just because they filmed it here; but because it sounds interesting.)

I was thinking the same thing... Theres Transformers but everything eles I want to see isn't a blockbuster
Plan on seeing: G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra (I feel it will flop) Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (Make good numbers but nothing huge) Inglorious Basterds Bruno The Ugly Truth My Sister's Keeper (My wife is dragging me to the last two.)
But it's also studios release the blockbusters first because they feel they have the longest legs, plus this summer is all messed from the writers strike a few years ago.

I'm surprised MY SISTER'S KEEPER is coming out now. It just seems more like an Oscar type film.

Not really, May is always crowded. Public Enemies, Transformers, and District 9 look pretty good.

There's still The Hangover, Year One, Up (why have we got to wait til October exactly?), Transformers, Inglorious Bastards, Bruno, Public Enemies, Looking For Eric, Last House On The Left, Toy Story 3D, Saw VI to go up to October
So doesn't look too bad, no film has blown me away since Gran Torino either so I live in hope I'll see a classic sometime during the summer.

The summer movie season started a whole month before the actual summer season officially starts (which is next Sunday I think?). That certainly explains things. Where's "4th of July special FX movie staring Will Smith" for example or at least something in that vain? It's coming out on August 7th. It's called "GI JOE." Seriously, Hollywood. You finally make a GI Joe movie and it doesn't come out on July 4th weekend? You should be is what you should be....

Better that than have Hasbro compete with itself by airing it to close to Transformers 2.

Better that than have Hasbro compete with itself by airing it to close to Transformers 2. Agreed, especially since they expect TF2 to outperform the original (which grossed over $300mil). I'd like to think any other year they'd have opened JOE on that weekend. Hopefully this one does well so that they can do that with the sequel...

I'm pretty stoked for "9", the new Tim Burton movie.
Saw the trailer with Terminator, and it looked really cool.

When is that Robert Downey, JR. Sherlock Holmes movie coming out? I definitely want to see that one.

Last year was the same way. As was the year before. They do this because, by July, most people are winding down on big-budget summer blockbusters. Comedies tend to do great in late July/early August since it's something different, not just another "stuff blows up" movie. When is that Robert Downey, JR. Sherlock Holmes movie coming out? I definitely want to see that one. December 25, 2009.
