Wow! After a week or so of relative inactivity, I leave for one day and this thread picks right back up again. So, let me try to address some of the topics brought up during my one day absence: On Sleepaway Camp: I actually got to see the film this way the first time I saw it, thanks to an idiot friend of mine ruining the ending beforehand. Damn, I wish I could've seen it without the ending spoiled... On female horror fans: I've mentioned this before, but my girlfriend is also a big horror fan - that's how we met. And she's not into most of the well-known, recent stuff, either, which, according to her, "sucks" (at least for the most part). She has posters plastered all over her walls, ranging from the Christopher Lee version of Dracula, to Carrie, to Evil Dead, to Night of the Living Dead...it just goes on and on. And her VHS collection is just downright amazing, with the number of lost gems she has hidden in there. So while the hardcore fanbase is predominantly male, the females are definitely out there, and I'm one lucky son of a bitch to have found one ;D On a Jaws sequel/reboot/prequel: After JTR...please, just let it rest in peace. There is no humanly possible way the original could be improved upon anyway. And by the way, Rorschach... Coming Soon: Platinum Dunes presents JAWS: The Beginning Starring Jessica Biel, Dane Cook, Ryan Reynolds, Shia Lebeouf, and Megan Fox. The story centers around a young Bruce the Shark before he came to Amity, and his attempts to eat a pair of vacationing couples (Biel and Cook, along with Lebeouf and Fox) and thier oceanographer sidekick, Matt Hooper (Reynolds). The big climax comes when the shark tries to drag Biel into the water a la Quint, but she chops one of his fins off instead and escapes to shore along with Hooper. Oh dear God....I've given them another idea, haven't I? ;D ...just for making me think THAT was real (I've had a long day), I'm going to find out where you live

Hell, finding out about the ending was what made me want to see the movie in the first place. Also, when I was in college, I met a girl who was into horror, and was going to Tom Savini's school to be a makeup effects artist...and yet she had no idea who Christopher Lee is. And also I could never get a read on whether or not she liked me. *shrug*

New Induction to the Horror Hall of Shame: I Still Know What You Did Last Summer Text By Ken Ivory and Lex Luthor It's no secret that I'm not a big fan of '90's horror films, I just felt that the lacked the iconic figures of the '70's and '80's, they seemed to concentrate more on the whodunnit aspcet way too much. The biggest example would have been the Scream trilogy, the only good entry was the first one in 1996. The success of Scream would inspire another mystery slasher I Know What You Did Last Summer, in which a group of teenagers are stalked by a deranged fisherman named Ben Willis who witnessed them dumping a dead body the previous summer. Then came the sequel in which the survivors of the original are still tormented about the events of 2 summers ago. Logically enough it was called I Still Know What You Did Last Summer.....Even the title pisses me off! Surely I Still Know would have been much better! Anyway, let's delve into the plot shall we?.......what little there is Survivor of the original, Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) and her friend win a trip to the Bahama's on a radio contest after "correctly" guessing that the capital of Brazil is Rio!! Anyhow, they and their expendable/stupid friends head off along with new friend Will Benson, murder ensues blah, blah, blah. In the meantime, Julie's boyfriend Ray (Freddie Prinze Junior) tries to get to her by procuring seemingly every mode of tranport ever invented. Luckily (I guess) he arrives just as the killer is revealed to be ................wait for it....................... Will Benson- son of Ben Willis. How clever was that Benson = Ben's Son - genius!! I did a bare bones induction of this as I ddn't want to waste any more of my life on this pile of crap!! But, look on the bright side, at least they had the sense not to make a sequel

Ah, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, or more accurately I Know What Jennifer's Breasts Did Last Summer. Totally deserving entry into the Hall of Shame, and reading about it definitely brings back memories of one of the periods when horror was insanely hot, for better or worse.
One thing, though - for some reason, I've always been kind of a fan of Freddie Prinze Jr., and feel that the guy was just ONE good role away from really hitting the big time. It's a shame that his career went the way of the Neve Campbell.
Now that we've got a new Hall of Shame inductee...I just finished writing next thread's hall of fame entries. Three very deserving inductions are on tap for some true luminaries that everyone should love, including a first for this series of inductions.

It's a shame that his career went the way of the Neve Campbell. I never really liked Freddie's acting, but you could tell he was a cool guy in general, so I gave him a pass. Same for Ben Affleck. But yeah, he gets to boink Sarah Michelle Gellar so it's not like he's failing at life or anything.

Alright, I have to get it off my chest - I'm getting really tired of all the miscellaneous "horror" threads popping up left and right. The threads for individual movies I don't mind, but threads like "80s horror fans" or the more recent "What horror franchises do you hate?" could easily be put in this thread. New posters are always welcome in these official threads, and creating threads like those mentioned above kind of stop that from happening. This isn't the first time I've seen this, either. It happens at least once or twice a week, if not more. At this point, I'm even considering going to the mods about it. There's an official thread, guys - please use it!

If you don't like it, feel free to not click on those other threads. I love discussing any topic related to horror, but I have to ask what exactly the point is in making those other threads? If this is going to be allowed, you might as well allow a dozen different NFL threads even when that has its own topic. If there's an "official" thread for anything whatsoever, what the hell is the point of making new threads for the same topic? I'll give the movie threads a free pass because it allows movie fans in general to discuss it, but making topics like the ones I've seen recently? It's pointless, and it actually drags discussion away from what should be the be-all, end-all thread on the subject. I stand by what I said.

But one time, someone important around here (I think it was Blade Braxton, but it might've been someone else) posted a thread dedicated to some horror movie or other, and I said something along the lines of "hey, we've got a horror thread, maybe this topic could go in there?" and he said basically "Eh, this is too important to get lost in the shuffle of some catch-all thread." I can't remember the exact exchange, but something to that effect. So I kinda don't know what to tell ya. *shrug*

So I kinda don't know what to tell ya. *shrug* Yeah, I can understand that argument, but here's the thing - we have MLB and NFL threads around here that are pretty "official" in nature, and whenever someone decides to post an MLB/NFL related thread, the topic is locked, and that poster is told to go to the official thread. I'm not looking to offend anyone by saying this, but it's a bit hypocritical when this rule is enforced with some threads, but not others. Like I said, I have no problem with the individual movie threads for NOES, Saw, etc for reasons already stated, but the general horror topics outside of this thread really need to stop. Just my opinion.

I hear ya, Guy, and I'm with you 100% if you decide to go to the Mods about it. In the very first official horror thread, I distinctly remember one occasion where the thread almost dropped out of existence due to about four different horror-related threads (non-individual movie, mind you) on page 1 alone. At that point, this series of threads hadn't yet accumulated its sizable poster base, and damn near died as a result of it. I think that now we have a big enough following who actively follow the goings-on in here to keep that from ever happening, however, but still...you make excellent points and comparisons about the official NFL/NBA/MLB threads, and I think this thread deserves the same respect. Yeah, I'm inclined to agree. But one time, someone important around here (I think it was Blade Braxton, but it might've been someone else) posted a thread dedicated to some horror movie or other, and I said something along the lines of "hey, we've got a horror thread, maybe this topic could go in there?" and he said basically "Eh, this is too important to get lost in the shuffle of some catch-all thread." Kind of weird to bring this up - but whatever happened to Thump? He was a very regular poster, and then he just vanished like Freddie Prinze Jr.'s career.

So my time not posting has been relatively well spent. I finally got a chance to see Ju-On, Happy Birthday to Me, and another film I'd never picked up, Pumpkinhead.
After all the j-horror talk, I thought I might be let down by Ju-on but I have to say i really enjoyed it. Yes, it lacks slick production and special effects but it was very well done and the final scene actually gave me goosebumps.
Happy Birthday to Me was also a ton of fun. I can't belive I'd never heard of it before. Creative death scenes, not to shabby acting, and a plot that actually had me trying to figure out the killer and failing. PLUS it has freaking Pa Kent from Superman!!
Lots of odd and somewhat sleazy undertones in that film as well.
Finally, Pumpkinhead was ok for what it was. Decent creature effects and not much else but I did enjoy seeing Lance Henrikson as a sympathetic character.

Which Ju-On, because there's two different movies that share that title - Ju-On: The Curse is the original, EXTREMELY low-budget television movie which retells the origin story of the curse and has a few high school victims, while Ju-On: The Grudge is the more well-known bigger budget theatrical movie. The origin story was already known - so this movie is Kayako's kill-crazy rampage. ;D At any rate, great choice, but I'm biased since Ju-On is my favorite movie series of all time.

Checked out Vacancy 2 & Autopsy this weekend. Wasn't a big fan of the Vacancy sequel. But I enjoyed the hell out of Autopsy. It was a decent little movie with lots of gore, and some comedy thrown in too.
