Shame because there are guys who are older than him who are still active but his health is more important- I do hope he has invested his money wisely for his future...
His retirement = sad day for the IWC, who will be the king of the photoshops?? ;D

Well Batista could always take a more relaxed role if Vince would let him to possibly extend his career. It seems to have worked for others, and Batista is enough of a name to justify him being excused from house shows to keep him performing if that would help.

I'm thinking Rick Rude like "Insurance Policy" for some up and coming young talent that need it. He'd never go to ECW, so the Hart Dynasty is out...but maybe CM Punk over on Smackdown could use a little muscle to back him up when he completes his rumored heel turn.

Is he worth the cash for such a limited role though? If Batista would never set foot in ECW, I doubt he's going to take a massive paycut comparable to other hired muscle characters in the WWE.

The difference would be, he'd be a hired muscle character who was a multiple time world champion, so paying him a little more than those characters would be understandable. And hey, if he's not willing to take a pay cut, he can just ride into the sunset. I assume, being a business man that Vince would tell him the same thing, since I doubt Vince would be up for paying for services NOT rendered, no matter who you are.

Yeah but he's way more over than those other guys and can get others over by proxy. How about a Reverend gimmick? That would be weird.

I'm never happy to see someone having to stop what they love to do due to an injury. What I can say, is that I am not surprised. Batista has always been extremely muscular, even more so than a lot of the guys on the roster. Guys like that tend to have shorter careers. Plus, he started at a late age, wrestling wise, anyway.

Batista is in a weird position. His career began relatively late and, despite him being over, it wasn't long enough for him to fill that "Legend" role like Rude did. If he did take on a role like that, it's going to seem less like "mentor" and more like "Hey, didn't this guy used to be a main eventer?" All things considered, Batista's run at the top hasn't been a very long one and I don't know that he carries enough currency to transition into that sort of role.

The difference between Batista and the main eventers that are older than him is they aren't always finding new ways to tear muscles.
Couple that with Batista wanting to retire around 2010 when his contract is up, and it's a pretty good bet that he's not gonna be around much longer.

Plus "Business Suit and Sunglasses" Batista is so much cooler than "casual wear/wrestling" trunks Batista anyways. In that vein, I'd also like to see him run a stable almost like a Kingpin type deal. In which the top guy makes his lackeys do stuff, but when the opposition gets close enough to try to lay a finger on him he crushinates them!

He makes a big return, challenges Orton for the title, and gets released a few hours before SmackDown that Friday.

I hope he doesn't, but it wouldn't shock me with his age, and seemingly yearly injuries.

He should really end it. The guys is one of the most injury prone I've ever seen or heard about. It may be due to his size and age but yeah.

HHH can say whatever he wants. He tore his first muscle at like 30. Batista's 10 years older than that, has torn it about 4 times, and is carrying about 40 pounds of unneeded mucle mass on his body. After Trips second tear, he slimmed down. Batista came back so big he couldn't even run.

I see him in an Andre and Haku/Yokozuna and Owen role, where the young guy does most of the work, so Big Dave can finish them with the powerbomb. I mean, Dave's not nearly that bad off, but it's a part time role, and one where he can get someone over.
