I like the Asian horror. I think those characters are creepy as hell.

I feel like typing a bit, so I'm gonna throw in some horror movie opinions here. Re-Animator: I think I've mentioned a couple of times that this is my favorite horror film of the 80's. It's got everything; blood, zombie-esque critters, Jeffrey Combs, boobs, glowing green stuff, and HP Lovecraft. What's not to love? Sleepaway Camp: I was lucky enough to see this unspoiled. Never saw the end coming. I was like DAMN. Carrie: As much as I would love to mark R-A as my favorite film ever, this on pretty much takes my horror cake. I was that girl in high school, and this movie is a giant catharsis for me. The end got me though. I jumped a mile at the end. Basket Case 1,2, and 3: Having recently completed viewing of all this, I hereby dub Frank Henlotter a genius. Basket Case is obviously low budget, but the story is great, the effects are great, and the Bradley Twins are sympathetic characters. I always feel kinda sorry for Belial, who really just wants to exist. Another thing about these particular movies is that there's a line of continuity that you just don't find in most sequels. They're entirely faithful to each other. Troma Films in General: WANT MOER ALWAYS. More to come from Mehe later. Very fine list. And having just seen Basket Case 3, I will say this: I don't quite consider Henenlotter an out-and-out genius, but I certainly admire the hell out of the man for coming up with something so strange and original. Even if someone doesn't like the Basket Case trilogy, they've gotta admit that there's nothing else in the world like it. I really dig everything else you listed, as well.

Also, TR I think I'm ready to dip my feet a little more in the asian film scene. I've read some of your reviews but have trouble finding some of them. Care to indulge me with some of your favorite Asian horror not including Audition? - The entire Ju-On series - Curse 1 & 2 and Grudge 1 & 2. Pure awesomeness from front to back with the most badass female villain in all of horror, Kayako Saeki, as marvelously played by WC horror hall of fame inductee Takako Fuji. - A Tale of Two Sisters- Marebito- Ringu series - the "Anthology of Terror" box set is a good buy, even though Rasen is a pretty weak film it's still worth watching - Pulse (a.k.a. Kairo- The O.G. versions of The Eye, Shutter, Premonition and Dark Water are all very good - LOADS better than their American counterparts - The Takashi Miike collection of awesomeness: Dead or Alive trilogy, One Missed Call, Ichi the Killer, and MPD Psycho- Apartment 1303 (although not many others like this movie as much as I do, as I identify with it in a VERY personal way) - Tomie (just the first film, don't bother with the box set) ...I'm sure I missed a few, but that's what I can think of right now. I've seen Ringu and Ju-on: The Grudge and thought those were fine. I'm in the minority on this, but I prefer the american version. I've always loved battle royale, but I don't think that really counts as horror. The Audition blu-ray I have on pre-order and if I like it the Ichi Blu-ray will follow. The Eye I wasn't really into. Maybe I should give it another chance, but felt it wasn't really all that horrific. Subtitles have never bothered me. How this all came about was I talked to a co-worker recently about the asian horror scene and felt I should add more films to my collection. We talked about stuff like OldBoy, the Host, and Thrist as well as some lesser known titles.

A teaser poster for SAW VII has already been released (warning SPOILERS) There's my sig for whenever we get to the thread where Saw VII is released. ;D I like the Asian horror. I think those characters are creepy as hell. Yup. Not creepy at all. Again, not many agree, but after absorbing slasher villain after slasher villain for the first 24 years of my life...I found these and other long black hair down the face luminaries creepy as hell. Though I do admit the irony in the fact that while these characters - and the style of J-horror itself - is refreshing to me as an American horror film watcher, this style is viewed as incredibly cliched and trite in Japan just as slasher flicks were during the '80s here in the States. Finally, I just finished writing the three Hall of Fame inductions for the next thread, and some real crowd-pleasers are on the way. This series of threads will never die. Never! Just like Friday the 13th, there will ALWAYS be another sequel!

Can't wait to read the inductions, TR. The "ceremony" is one of my favorite parts of these threads.

As far as Asian horror goes, I enjoy the Battle Royale series. I'm dreading the day an American re-make comes to be!

Not to jinx us, but I have a hard time imaging any producer would come close to doing it after columbine, but it's not out of the realm of possiblity. No way they'd hire people the right age to make the movie. It'd all be 30 year olds passing as teenagers.

In a sense they did remake it with "The Condemned"
Which I thought was surprisingly pretty good

Bloody Disgusting learned today that you won't have to wait much longer for the trailer debut of New Line Cinema's A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, their remake of Wes Craven's horror film that introduced Freddy Krueger to the world. If you want to see the trailer all you have to do is see Columbia Pictures' incredible ZOMBIELAND in theaters on October 2. The trailer will also debut online sometime around then, we'll keep our eyes peeled for you. Freddy returns to the big screen in April of 2010

Oh how October puts a hurt on my wallet. All good buys, and there's actually a seen in Ringu 0 (a.k.a. Ringu: The Birthday) that's EVERY bit as unnerving as Sadako's famous crawl out of the TV in the original film. I hear you on the effects that October has on personal finances; I've been buying more horror flicks recently just because the air here in Minnesota has started to switch, and the cooler weather always makes me think Halloween.

I'm sort of the same. When ever I'm walking through my neighbourhood this time of year and there's leaves falling from the trees or blowing along the ground, the Halloween score starts playing in my head. Yeah, I'm weird like that

Yeah, I'm weird like that This is a little off topic, but... Have any of you ever watch the H25 documentary that came out on dvd a few years back? I always considered it unnerving that PJ Soles was taking pictures with people in the Michael mask pretending to strangle her. Sure, it's a famous scene and PJ Soles is a sweetheart, but it just felt odd to watch as an outsider.
