Entertainment Weekly broke the news early Wednesday that Marlon Wayans is in advanced talks to play comedy icon Richard Pryor in Richard Pryor: Is It Something I Said?
The project has been written and will be directed by Bill Condon (Dreamgirls).
The movie depicts Pryor's controversial brand of comedy and his battle with drugs and is currently budgeted at $20 million.
Eddie Murphy was originally attached to star in the project. ___________
Ernest, your thoughts?

Well, I can think of worse guys to do it, I suppose, so Marlon won't be too bad. I think he'll surprise people.

Is it me or does it seem like there has been a point where every famous or semi-famous black comic was tapped to play Richard Pryor in a bio-pic?

3 Things: 1. I still believe Steve Harvey could have been a great Richard Pryor. 2. Marlon I think can pull it off even though people will instantly crap on the idea (which is a shame considering Marlon CAN act as seen in Requiem for a Dream). 3. Now that Eddie is out, I wonder, is he trying to stay in mediocrity? Like does he like being in these kid/fat movies?

While I think the talent gap between the two is rather large, I believe for the character that's a rather good pick.

I ... I don't know about this one. Too early to condemn the choice, but it doesn't seem that great a choice to me right now.

He was great in Requiem for a Dream. I think he'll pull off the biggest performance of his life as Richard Pryor.

This could possibly earn Marlon an Oscar. If not an Oscar nomination at the very least. What? Lest we forget, bio pic performances are one of the most sure fired ways to get an Oscar. Plus if he REALLY nails this, it could open more dramatic roles.

He was awesome in Requiem. Good for him, and I think he'll do well.

Good choice. Marlon's pretty solid when he's reigned in.

He almost redeemed himself with Dreamgirls. True. Which reminds me, people ought to remember that before Ray changed his career, Jamie Foxx was "that guy from the Jamie Foxx Show", a semi-notable sitcom. Sometimes a solid role can change someone's career.

Sometimes a solid role can change someone's career. Which is what I hope happens to Marlon. I'm tired of people knowing him as just "that guy from the Scary Movie series and the Wayans Bros." He's a good actor that needs to break away from comedy.
