thought it might be an interesting topic
Johnny Cash/hurt: Well, obviousy. I this is the first one people think of when the you say superior covers (even Trent Rezner thinks it was better)
Eva Cassidy/ Time after time:' I'm not a huge fan of hers. But I think, similar to Cash, she came up with the truer version of the song.
Amy Winehouse/ will you still love me tomorrow
Tainted love/soft cell.
Also, while I don't think AAF's version of Smooth criminal is better (at least vocally), I think the instrumental is probably better.

"Turning Japanese", covered by Liz Phair A lot of the Motown hits were actually sung by many of the other groups in the fold. (For instance, "War" was a Temptations song Edwin Starr took and made into a hit.) And a new discovery on YouTube, "Piece Of My Heart" by Margaret Becker.

Both versions are awesome, but I like Metallica's Am I Evil? more than the original one by Diamond Head.

I know that Sloop John B is an old folk song that the Beach Boys found and recorded but does a non- Beach Boys recorded version exist?
