Everyone knows jeff is the more popular hardy in the eyes of the fans and in the eyes of WWE creative because they trust him with a major belt, give him major fueds etc
Its obvious that matt has had his issues in the past and has always been a strong midcarder. I am no way a matt hardy fan but i cannot deny that he is a good wrestler, has better mic skills than his brother...however something is just missing..i dont think he has the "IT" factor to be a major champion.
Anyway do you think that WWE will elevate Matt to main card status to help fill the void his brother will leave or will he just stay where he is?

They may try it, especially if Jeff's leaving is explained by someone like Punk putting him on the shelf. But they can't elevate Matt too quickly, since they don't want a Hardcore Holly main event.

They should try. He's always connected better as a face, and even if he isn't AS over as Jeff, being a Hardy automatically makes him more over than 90% of the roster.
It could work, but they'll need to handle it carefully. I thought Matt should have been main eventing on Smackdown in 2007 when he was arguably the best worker in the company for that stretch.

It couldn't hurt to try.
One thing that Matt's got over Jeff is that he's reliable. Somehow, I don't see a "Matt Hardy Suspended for Wellness Violation" popping up.
And Matt Hardy always manages to put on consistently good (or at least passable) matches with damn near everyone. He's like Shawn Michaels: he can drag anyone to a decent match.

It'd probably work out okay on Smackdown. They're running really short on well established faces that they can use in a main event capacity over there.

I really feel that Matt's time to be pushed to the top has passed. He's inthe Regal - Finlay - Kane role where he's seen as a reliable hand, and can be counted on to deliver a passable match.
Matt just doesn't have the indefinable 'IT' that his brother has. The only way I can see Matt being involved in all of this is once the rumoured Punk-Taker feud has played out, Matt starts taking regular beatings from Punk until Jeff returns to save the day.
Like it or not, that's now forever going to be Matt's place in things - second fiddle to Jeff. And Jeff taking time off won't change that.

They can try...but I personally don't think it'll work.
Although, Punk/M. Hardy could have some good matches together.

Matt is lacking something- he may be reliable but he seems to be prone to infections/appendix issues.. considering the fact that lita is rumored to be in a relationship with CM Punk that could be the fuel for some awesome matches

Would anybody else not be surprised to hear "We Want Jeff" chants if Matt were to fued with Punk after Summerslam? Matt just doesn't have the unique personality Jeff has and is just... really boring as a face. Putting on good matches can only get you so far, just ask Shelton Benjamin.
