Greetings,
This might be a pretty stupid question, but it's a rumour I've heard back in the time. In fact it might have been the first rumour I've ever heard concerning wrestling, and I was never able to clear it up, so I decided to raise the question right here.
Back in the days a friend told me, that the names of the finishers of Edge and Christian were switched for some reason. Somehow, that theory always made sense to me - just dropping someone straight on the face doesn't seem very "spirally" to me, but it is indeed "unprettying", while Christians finisher (today's killswitch) had this spiral setup in it.
As trivial as this question is - is there any truth to that? And if so, is it known why the names were switched?

Edge used the Downward Spiral (Reverse STO) when he started. While Christian's move (Inverted Double Underhook Facebuster?) was originally called the Impaler. I think it was changed to Unprettier when he turned heel in '01, then to Killswitch when he returned in '09. Edge abandoned the Downward Spiral some time in the early 2000s and started using the Edgecution (DDT like move), then from about '04 onwards, the Spear.
With all that said, I don't think the moves have ever had each other's names at all.
Hope that helps.

Thanks. Yes, I know when they used them and I also recalled Christian's Finisher was called the Impaler once, but again, I just thought switchting the names would make sense for the two finishers.

Coulda sworn Gangrel's DDT was called the Impaler originally as well, but I could be wrong

I actually think that the Impaler's the thing that's been traded, since I believe before Christian popped up Gangrel's DDT was called that.

Gangrel used an Implant DDT called either the Impaler or the Impaler DDT. After Christian debuted and started using his finisher they just started calling Gangrels move an Implant DDT [which is what it technically was].Then they called Christians move the Impaler.
Sometime during the E and C transition into the surfer dude gimmick they changed the name to the Unprettier.
Funny side note: In OVW and right before Cena started using the FU during his Lesnar feud, he used that move he now uses to set up the 5KS [although he did it a lot less lazy back then] as a finisher and called it the Killswitch!

There was an article in a WWF Magazine, probably around 2000 where Aaron Williams and Laura gave their opinions on certain topics and one months topic was best or deadliest finisher. Williams chose 'Christians finisher, The Downward Spiral' he spent the whole piece calling it that. The next months issue, somebody wrote in to 'Letters' (probably a member of this board) pointing out that while the article was a great read there was an issue in that Williams had got the name wrong (which was acknowledged in the editors reply). Maybe your friend read that article.
