WWE STAR PULLS OUT OF MATCH AT LAST MINUTE CLAIMING ILLNESS by Mike Johnson @ 9:56 PM on 10/21/2009Shad Gaspard of Cryme Time pulled out of his scheduled match last night at the WWE Smackdown taping, claiming illness right before he was scheduled to go to the ring. Sources indicated that Gaspard claimed he was suffering from flu-like symptoms, including stomach pains. He was instructed to go get medical attention, leading to JTG taking his spot in the match, literally at the last minute. I do want to note that there were some in the company skeptical of Gaspard's illness after the taping as he "seemed fine" until it came time to tape his segment and he was seen at the hotel after the taping. The finish JTG ended up involved in last night was originally booked to involve Gaspard. www.pwinsider.com/article/42402/wwe-star-pulls-out-of-match-at-last-minute-claiming-illness.html?p=1I don't read Smackdown spoilers, so if this was posted in that thread just let me know and I'll send it away.

Stomach problems and the flu can come on pretty bad. But keep in mind, Sheik Abdul Bashir wrestled lacking feeling in his legs after he tried to work out with Chris Benoit and Rob Conway by doing squats with them. He ended up pissing out the muscle fibers that he broke down in his legs. And yet, he wrestled in a tag team match.
While, it is best to look after someone's health, it's important to realize that guys have worked in much worse cases. So I think he's going to get heat because people are going to pass him off as a wimp, or a liar if he was fine.

'Wrestlers having the flu?! That can't happen! Send him to Wrestler's Court!' Hey, if Consequences Creed can keep working a match after vomiting in the middle of it, so can Shad.

Anyone else think WWE sent him home in case it might've been Swine Flu?

Edge wrestled with the flu at No Mercy 2002.
WWE is definitely the business you don't want to try to call in sick with. Short of being one of the top guys in the company, or so sick that you cant get up, you're going to get Teh HeatzZz~~

And to cite an indy example- Chikara's Cloudy finished a 2/3 falls tag match after being kicked so hard he vomited twice.
That said, I think health does have to come first at times, and working through certain things isn't brave or admirable, just stupid and detrimental long-term.

I remember Tajiri some years ago wrestling with a case of the flu that included a temp of like 102, dehydration and what not, and dude worked his scheduled match. It sticks in my mind because JR, in his Ross Report, put him over huge for going above and beyond.

Anyone else think WWE sent him home in case it might've been Swine Flu? Swine is clearly for what I read and see more dangerous then just a normal flu, so I wouldn't be shocked.

Anyone else think WWE sent him home in case it might've been Swine Flu? Considering that Swine Flu cases are going up big time, and it even shut down production of Bones, that's a definite possibility. The last thing Vince needs is for most of the Smackdown roster getting Swine Flu, and being out of action. Either that or Shad's not sick, he just misses Eve.

I think he got sick from JTG's nuts. But there were no nuts in his chunks. So fear not, JTG's nuts are safe for consumption!

'Wrestlers having the flu?! That can't happen! Send him to Wrestler's Court!' Hey, if Consequences Creed can keep working a match after vomiting in the middle of it, so can Shad. Vomiting actually makes you feel better. I vomited twice when I use to play football and felt better after! My mouth guard tasted bad though. But ya it was wise he didn't wrestle. The last thing we need is a Swine Flu pandemic for all of the Smackdown Wrestlers. Then we will get Raw twice a week!

I like how people always cite the Wellness Policy as great because it looks out for the health of the wrestlers.
Now in this thread we have people criticizing Shad because other guys have worked through sickness or pain that they probably shouldn't have in the interest of their health.
Maybe Shad was pulling some BS here, although I cant see why he would lie about it...and if WWE told him he had to go out there, flu or no, would Shad have the stroke to just refuse? Nah. If WWE did that though, they would look extremely hypocritical.

Unless there's a pattern of this with Shad there shouldn't be any problem, it was probably irritating that night but I doubt he'll be punished.
