Hi all;
I've been busy racking my brain all day, as I thought of the reason that this feud began. I know that Mankind attacked the Undertaker the night after WrestleMania XII. But I'm curious if the Fed offered any explaination for the newcomer to attack the Undertaker?
If they did--What was it? If not--What would you (if you were booking) have as the reason that Mankind attacked the Undertaker?
Also: I'm curious as to what others thought of the feud? I thought it was one of the better feuds from that year.

I might be remembering wrong, but I think Undertaker had split from Paul Bearer, and Bearer was sending opponents after him, like Mankind. Kane was the ultimate weapon of Bearer's against the Undertaker.
I think.

If you look at the KOTR 96 match, it was Paul who cost Taker the match, hitting him 'accidentally' with the urn. I think after the SummerSlam 96 turn it was supposed to have been agiven that Paul was helping Mankind out from the get go.

The Mankind/Undertaker feud is one of my favorite ever. Agreed. I loved their matches from 1996.

I loved the Undertaker/Mankind feud and one of the only times I actually liked Undertaker in his career and 'early' Mankind (as apposed to the joke kid friendly version they turned him into in 1998) was epic. Most certainly the most entertaining time in Mick Foley's career. the character was one of kind in the WWE and this feud really helped move the WWF out of 'The New Generation Era' and into a more 'hardcore' style 9with their Summerslam 1996 Boiler Room Brawl and In You8r House Buried Alvie Match./ Two first for the WWE at that time). It was the first time we ever saw Taker dominated over a series of PPVs and months in the WWF and by a guy who seemed darker and more scarier than he. Early Mankind was very scary and this was the best feud of both of their careers. Did set a few landmarks in WWF history. Also seeing Paul Bearer turn on Taker was massive shock. However I think Taker lost a lot when he lost Paul Bearer and Mankind didn;t really need him. It was probably the best feud which played out over 1996.

I was quite annoyed that the promotion did nothing with Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy (as the Executioner) following this most interesting feud.

No real explanation was given that I remember. I figure Mankind being the deranged character he is wanted to take out the biggest dog in the yard. Plus the fact of going after the Phenom added to Mankind's insanity.

One of my all time favorite feuds. Seems like one of the only times a wreslter got more wins than The Undertaker (I could be wrong, but it feels like he was far more dominant than any one else Taker has faced)
I know its impossible now, but I kind of wish they could of have one last match together as Taker's retirement.

Just watched the Hell in a Cell. How much of it was planned? I mean did they expect Foley to go off and through the cage?

Just watched the Hell in a Cell. How much of it was planned? I mean did they expect Foley to go off and through the cage? It depends who you listen to, the only definetive is that the the first fall off the cage was planned. After that it becomes murky, Foley claims the second fall wasn't planned, but I believe Terry Funk and Paul Bearer say it was, but the chair coming down and hitting Foley in the face wasn't. I go with Foley on it, watching the match from the start you acctually see that section begin to tear before Foley even goes off the first time.

Foley was knocked out for a while after the fall through the cage because the chair that was on top fell and hit him in the head, knocking his tooth into his nose.

Foley is insane, he really is lucky he didn't get killed that match. I know in his book, he said the fall through the cage was unplanned, and wass the best and worst choke slam he ever took. Worst, because he was so dazed from his first fall, he barely jumped with it, ad best because if he did, he'd have fallen right on his neck and broke it.

Probably my favorite feud ever.
In fact, the Mankind character is what got me back into watching WWF after taking a hiatus for a good while during the mostly awful period right before it.
I turned on RAW randomly and saw Mankind with his bizarre in ring style and those creepy, way out there promos. I was immediately interested and the following feud hooked me right back in. I wish the WWE of today had more weird, complex characters like him and less bland tattooed frat looking guys with short hair.
