You're really grasping if you're willing to complain about stuff like HHH vs. HBK. There's only a certain amount of freshness that can happen, and that often means stuff being repeated over the course of a few years at least. When was the last time this exact Triple Threat match happened? I'm sure it was more than a few months ago. Shawn hasn't been in the title picture in over a year now. Main event wrestlers appear in main events. Raw's actually doing its part in building up new top tier stars; but they're not just going to be thrown on PPV main events to "become stars" overnight because, quite frankly; the crowd isn't interested. They want big names and for all intents and purposes this is a pretty good mix for my money - I love me some HBK in the title picture. Don't forget that in this particular case, you have HHH & HBK aligned together as DX. The previous triple threats they have been enemies. THen throw in that they and Cena are faces, you have a fairly fresh match in terms of dynamics.

We only have Hornswaggle to blame, right?
What is it with this show? Jeez.

Hard to complain now. They did a piss poor job of building anyone really to take that spot. You can't really hotshot someone into a World Title match at one of the big four. Tell that to the challengers at Summerslam 2008

Tell that to the challengers at Summerslam 2008 JBL and The Great Khali were both former World Champions... ...also Batista faced John Cena and Taker faced Edge in non-title matches. The World Title matches were undercard attractions (see also; Rumble, Royal) You could have probably done Cena vs. Swagger or Miz or whoever, but you would have had to compliment it with something that would actually draw like DX vs. Orton and Legacy or something. I think we know how well that would have went over.

I prefer a slow build for stars, as it builds anticipation. I have zero issue with them doing the "slow burn" on guys, because, in the end, the crowd will want it more. My issue is this, they seem to wait until they are out of options, or until they have rehashed a matchup five times before they even begin to build new stars, and then become impatient when the new guy doesn't catch fire like they might want him to. Just because you've got a program, and it's going well, doesn't mean you can't build someone in the undercard with a "slow build" at the same time, so that when the top feud ends, you have someone who is peaking and ready to step up. Well, on the much maligned Raw, we have Kofi now being elevated, with Miz and Swagger experiencing a slow build while Cena and Orton finished off their feud. Where's the problem? It's not waiting until you are out of options, it's milking as much money from your money guys as possible. The internet may be sick of Cena/Orton, but the crowd still enjoys it. See when Orton chucked Kofi off the stage, they were chanting for Cena to make the save. So as long as a story has legs in the eyes of the audience, they may as well do the matches for them. It would be a bit strange if they done one Cena/Orton match, then gave Kofi a title shot, then went back to Cena/Orton, then gave Swagger a shot, then went back to Cena/Orton etc. They wouldn't have appeared to be as big a rivals as they did. Why not? You didnt see the video Raw ran last week detailing their start and stop feud? I remember Michael Cole saying they have been rivals "almost a decade". Or something of the sort.
