Was this just a one-off match to get Rico over, or did they expand on the ending of it?

Just a one off match to try and get him over, yeah. Nothing ever came of it.
Which, now that I watch is odd because Flair is clearly holding onto the ropes while being pinned...yet the announcers make no mention of it and they never had another match that I can recall either.

Flair was losing left and right for a while there though, so I doubt it actually meant anything.

I don't get it. At all. It's kind of a small horse, I mean what am I missing? Am I crazy?

This was also, if memory serves, Ricos first match after he turned on Billy and Chuck during the gay wedding thing on Smackdown.

Even with a win over Flair, Rico was horribly horribly underrated.

This was also, if memory serves, Ricos first match after he turned on Billy and Chuck during the gay wedding thing on Smackdown. I thought the gay wedding happened in the fall. I remember this happening in May. Or have I got my dates completely wonked up? All I distinctly remember seeing this and wondering why nobody noticed Flair was grabbing the rope while getting pinned. I also remember a backstage segment where Flair laments losing to "a guy like Rico," but I think that may have been the following week. Man, my wrestling memory is hazy as hell.

Nah, Flair hooked up with Triple H pretty soon after this.

I seem to remember either Flair or Hunter mentioning the Rico loss at one point during their partnership, as a reason why Flair felt he couldn't get it done anymore. Was it...didn't they tease a Flair face turn by having Hunter throw that loss at him and tell him to get in line, before Flair did just that later on in the show?

Was this just a one-off match to get Rico over, or did they expand on the ending of it? Honestly I think it was a little of both. Flair was in a bit of a slump in the storyline, and I think WWE did actually seem to have some big plans for Rico at that point.

Even with a win over Flair, Rico was horribly horribly underrated. That he was. If he had started wrestling earlier, he could of been big. At this point, he was already in his 40s, so I think that hurt him. I think this was close to when he was aligned with 3 Minute Warning.
