Overrated, Underrated. Both terms are thrown about liberally. What's overrated or underrated to one person is the opposite for another.
I just enjoy watching him in his matches. Except the match with Mr. Hughes in ECW. That was total crap. But overall, he's a hard worker and like someone else pointed out, more willing to hurt himself than his opponent.

Overrated? I thought he was good in Jungle Book and Thief of Baghdad

I hate the terms overrated and underrated but in this case I agree. Sabu is overrated. He doesn't have all that much wrestling ability outside of crazy spots and the like (when he doesn't botch them). Don't get me wrong, I have enjoyed many of his matches but when I actually analyse him all I get is that he isn't as good as some make him out to be.

his best match was with Cena. honestly that match is the Sabu match with the least amount of botches

This a pet peeve of mine when talking about wrestling. Overrated by whom? The fans? Well then it's just their opinon. Things like theater, film, books, art, etc. are critqued by people who have learned the inside and out techincal aspects of the bussiness and of the period the work comes from. So Roger Ebert calling a film overrated has merit to me because Ebert has spent the last 45 years of his life watching and studying film. A fan calling a worker under/overrater is nothing but their opinon

Well the reason I opened this thread was to see what the majority of people on this forum (very intelligent people) thought of Sabu. I read a lot that his fans think he's a god-like wrestler. This puzzles me since he seems to botch a heck of a lot of moves.
But as Triple Kelly says what's overrated to someone is underrated to someone else which is true. Maybe I'm a bit biased. I should have said overrated or underrated really because in wrestling peoples tastes differ.

sabu to me while he is a botch machine is still a very good wrestler, he does the crazy stupid spots but when he actually mat wrestles he does that good as well. to me he dosent get enough credit with some people. and alot of people i know who are more casual fans think that extreme wrestling is a jeff hardy match, so i show them some sabu matches and they become fans.

Underrated.....Sabu is a madman.....madness in the ring isn't always going to be perfection.

Sabu was awesome. Yes, he was a spot wrestler and blah blah etc. etc. but not every single wrestler needs to be a technical marvel. He was good at entertaining the crowd and that is all that really matters.

Honestly, I would say yes. When it comes to dangerous, crazy spots, he not only invented most of that which we see today, but can still do them pretty well. However, I would never accuse him of being a good wrestler, in almost any sense. Botches aside, all of his matches always seem like bad improv to me: A lot of stuttering with very little pay-off. Also, despite all of his high spots, I just never found him interesting after a while. Too much is more than enough. Anybody else amused this was said by a guy with The Amazing Red pic + praise in his sig?

When you see the Sabu of....lets say 98-99 onwards, you're not seeing the whole picture. He has become crippled by his injurys and to entertain the fans he's brought out some more crazy spots to make up for the loss of wrestling ability.
Before then he was one of the most innovative wrestlers going around, see his matches against RVD, some of his japanese work and especially his series of matches with the then Lightning Kid and you can see the talent.
So personally I lie in the middle.
Pre 98 he's underrtated.
98-2001 he was okay
After that an overrated spot monkey

Its hard to say for me if he is overated or underated because i only really saw him work matches during his WWE run although i did see a match with him and RVD at a AWR houseshow in September and he was decent (and yes he did botch )

I'd say he's closer to underrated than overrated. People forget that he COULD wrestle well if he wanted to, just that his darevdevil crazy style drew better. And with the endless botching/sloppy/repetitive/spot monkey comments I see directed at him, it seems he nearly never gets any credit. I agree with this. He's shown that he can trade holds when the match calls for it, like in his match with Angle on ECW. There just aren't as many fans who want to see that side of him because that's not the style his reputation was built on.

Throughout the 90's he was a great wrestler IMO. Since then, he shouldn't do the moves he use to because of age and injury but he still does them.
I think Sabu, and RVD, get move hate than they should because they really aren't focused on match psychology. Both focus on high spots to excite the crowd instead of telling a story. Doesn't make them bad, but that's not the case.

Overated to the highest extent. Theres this small factor in wrestling called physcology(I can'tspell ok and it's 1 am over here,I ain't googling it) and any wrestler needs it to create a story to a match. Sabu has never heard of this thing and instead of having a match with a story, he does "get all my spots in as quickly as possible"
