Neither. Rated perfectly where he belongs. Fantastic wrestler, but not cut for the main event.

He's rated where he belongs, yes, great wrester who was ahead of his time, great seller, second generation athlete and had charisma to spare. Unfortunately he came along at the wrong point to have made the impact he should have on the main event. If he were on the scene today he would be a headliner, no question about it but back at his peak he just didn't fit in to to the main event scene and he suffered with injury so couldn't play a major role in the New Generation as he should have.
Still, he was one of the greatest IC holders ever and is highly regarded by his peers, you never hear anyone have a bad word to say about him in shoots or tales of politics or trying to make opponents look bad, it's just a shame he's not around to see Joe reach the WWE.

I think injuries derailed his career. Had he been able to get a constant run during the early to mid 90's, he could've won the WWF title once or twice. But Perfect had back issues that never really helped his chances of being a main-eventer. He, like Rick Rude had the tools to be a main-eventer.

^ Rick Rude WAS a maineventer though.
I think Perfect is overrated if anything. Mainly because his entire legacy is build on just 2 1/2 very good years in WWF (1989-91).

I mostly meant Rude's WWF career, as I haven't seen much of his NWA/WCW career. And he was a upper-midcarder in WWF.

Should've been the champion in the early 90's instead of Bret.
In fact, I'd be just fine if Perfect got Bret's entire push and Bret was the one who ended up midcard for life. Hennig had more charisma, and I found him a better in ring talent as well....not that I expect anyone to agree with me, but, whatever.

I do not think he was any at all. Mr Perfect is what you saw and if you watch the DVD that gives you a perfect view on his career. He was really one of the best ever.

I agree with neither.
He was one of those guys who'd always be the best damn midcarder on the roster, but he was always going to be a midcarder. Kinda like Owen Hart.

I believe he had a decent run as NWA World Champ for a while.

Mr Perfect was great but during his era there were so many big names and when he went to WCW they had almost everyone for the 90s.

From what I've seen of Henning (which isn't a lot, really) I'd say he's neither under or over rated. He is an excellent wrestler but I agree with The Dysco Inferno that he was around at the wrong time and would probably be a main eventer today.

Hennig had more charisma, and I found him a better in ring talent as well....not that I expect anyone to agree with me, but, whatever. I would agree with you. It is very unfortunate Perfect was riddled with injuries. He IMO would have been a better choice for champion in 1992 than Hart and it would have been a blow off to the Flair VS Perfect alliance then feud. Perfect did have the it factor more than Bret did back then and it took till 1994 for Bret to even look like he was ready to be WWF champion. Hart VS Perfect would have been an excellent WWF Championship match also. Which would have sold very well. He may have been a solid mid carder or perhaps the WWF dropped the ball with him also as well as his back injuries may have held him back. If it wasn;t for his injuries I would have bought him more than Bret as WWF Champion and Hart VS Perfect feud would have been awesome especially after the caliber of matches they had (both at Summerslam 91 and their best match IMO King Of The Ring 93)

Perfect was still around in the WWF in 1993 and had an excellent run that year. He feuded with Flair which ended with an excellent match on Raw, Michaels which gave us the 'street fight' segment from Raw in 1993 9which was years ahead of it;s time), he had a decent fued with Lex Luger and a good match with him at Wrestlemania 9 and also he had an excellent 5 star match with Bret Hart 9their best match IMO) at King Of The Ring 1993 (where he put Bret over)

Underrated. He was as good as he and everyone else said he was and should've gotten farther than he did. The farthest he got in WWF was ending up being yet another heel to be fed to Hogan.
I also agree with some of the posters here who suggest he would've been a better champ than Bret. Yeah, he would've. Easily.
