To be fair, he WAS given the chance. I believe he had a decent run as NWA World Champ for a while. I meant given a chance in the big time as in WWE. Mr Perfect was great but during his era there were so many big names and when he went to WCW they had almost everyone for the 90s. Henning never held the NWA title. He had the AWA title which was still the third most prestigious title in America after the NWA and WWF title. Also FYI to anyone who doesn't know, the NWA and the NWA title were "the big time" in the 80's. The WWF was huge in the north, and among the younger fan base, but to most hardcore fans in America, and abroad the NWA title was still the crown jewel of the wrestling world. Just because the WWE is top dog now doesn't mean that they were always "the big time". Unless you were named Hulk Hogan the WWF of the 80's offered just about the same amount national exposure, and prestige as you would get in any other big promotion like the NWA, AWA, or even WCCW.

^ Rick Rude WAS a maineventer though. I think Perfect is overrated if anything. Mainly because his entire legacy is build on just 2 1/2 very good years in WWF (1989-91). He was AWA champion two times before that. So just like many at the time, when he debuted in the WWF, he had the tools and experience to succeed. Anyway, I chose neither. He was right for his role in the midcard, could've had a short WWF championship run, but whatever. I feel he was wasted in WCW as another NWO flunky.

You need to be saying some of this stuff in the Flair/ Austin thread.

I understand he was a world champion but it would have been nice if he one day was WWE or WCW world champion during the mid 90s

He REALLY loved that "slingshot into turnbuckle post" spot.

I was never a big fan.. I thought his Mr Perfect character was better than what he ever did in the ring. He exuded a certain overconfident heel charisma thats lacking in a lot of guys today... but his in ring work IMO hasnt really aged well.

He REALLY loved that "slingshot into turnbuckle post" spot. It's probably a very fun spot to do, to be fair. Not as fun as Flair's bouncing off the turnbuckle and over the ring ropes, though. In my opinion Perfect was rated just about right.

I would say he is Perfectly rated. I agree with those that are saying he would have been a better Champion than Bret.

Based entirely on his WWF runs and nothing else, because I have not seen it.
The fans romanticize his place a bit, but nothing to get upset about.

Eh, if Sgt. Slaughter or Yokozuna could get brief title runs, I dont see why he couldn't.
Even being a big Hulkamaniac as a kid, when he was fed to Hogan on SNME I scratched my head a bit. I figured they were building him up for a PPV showdown with Hogan at least.

I would also say neither.
He wasn't overrated because his matches were great, he was good on thew mic, and he was good as a sidekick or a commentator.
He wasn't underrated because he was the best of the mid-card but not quite main event. But as someone pointed out, they gave lesser guys the title why not him?

Mr Perfect one of the best overall workers of all time . I think many of his matches were really good and well worth watching.
