So the answer is, pretty much every world champ from the 90s on. LOL ... yeah, it's beginning to look like it, huh? I was mainly just curious because I heard a tidbit about HHH saying he was only the second guy to win the IC belt after winning the WWE title. (Morales was the first.) I started to wonder who else may have done something similar, so I started the thread. And, for the record, if anyone can think of anyone I/we may have missed, keep adding!

Are we counting ROH and their World Championship? If we are then Samoa Joe lost the World Championship and won the Pure Title 6 months later. If we aren't then ... Sabu won the FTW title after being an ECW World Champion. Yeah, but if we are going to count the FTW title, shouldn't we count the Million-Dollar championship, since they are both made-up titles? In that case, where does the MD championship rank in order of prestige? Should Steve Austin be amended because he was U.S. and TV champion before becoming the MDC? Or does the MDC count as a World title? (highly unlikely.) I'm thinking just WWE/WCW/ECW, since Vince owns all of them and I posted in the WWE - Current section. I'll add Samoa Joe, but he gets an asterisk. (since he has never worked for or won a title in a McMahon-owned promotion.)

So here's the updated list. I've decided to exclude the Hardcore title (at least the 24/7 version) due to it's "twenty champions a night" policy back in the day. So unless someone had a "credible" HC title reign, I'm taking them off the list.
So long, Trish. I still love ya!
Ric Flair (IC, Tag Team titles three times - twice with Batista, once with "Rowdy" Roddy Piper) Shawn Michaels (European champion while already WWE champion; Tag Team titles after being WWE champ) HHH (IC belt with TMPT) Chris Jericho (IC, multi-time Tag Team champion after being Undisputed WWE champion) Chris Benoit (current U.S. champion; former World Tag Team champion; former World champion) Batista (Tag Team with Rey Misterio while already WHC) Hulk Hogan (Tag Team belts with Edge, after dominating the WWE title in the '80s) Randy Orton (current World Tag Team champion; former WHC) Edge (current and multi-time World Tag Team champion; former WWE champion) Chyna (Women's title after being IC champion) Eddie Guerrero (Tag Team champion w/ Misterio after being WWE champion) Undertaker (multiple Tag Team reigns and one Hardcore reign after his WWE title run) Kane (IC, Hardcore, multiple WWE Tag Team runs after being WWE champion) Bret Hart (U.S. and WCW Tag Team titles after being WWE and WCW champion) "Diamond" Dallas Page (European champion and WCW/WWE Tag Team champion after WCW title run) Miss Jacqueline (WWE Cruiserweight title after being Women's champion) John "Bradshaw" Layfield (U.S. Title run after being WWE champion) Booker T (five-time, five-time, five-time, five-time, FIVE-TIME WCW champion; won IC, Tag, and U.S. belts since then) Kurt Angle (U.S. and Tag Team titles after being WWE champion) Pedro Morales (the first Triple Crown winner won the WWE title first) The Iron Sheik (WWE World Tag Team champion w/Nikolai Volkoff after WWE title reign) "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash (WCW Tag Team after being WWE champion) Andre the Giant (World Tag Team championship w/Haku after being World champion for a minute) Big Show (U.S., Hardcore and Tag Team title runs after being WCW/WWE champion) "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (WWE Tag Team title after being WWE champion) Tazz (WWE Hardcore and Tag Team champion w/Spike Dudley after being ECW World champion) Tommy Dreamer (WWE Hardcore champion after his five-minute ECW World title reign) Sting (WCW Tag Team and U.S. title reigns after being NWA/WCW champion) Lex Luger (U.S., TV and Tag Team champion after WCW title reign) Shane Douglas (WCW Tag Team (?) after being ECW World champion) Yokozuna (World Tag Team champion w/Owen Hart after being WWE champion) The Rock (World Tag Team title run, w/Mick Foley and w/Chris Jericho, etc., after being WWE champion) Mick Foley (Tag Team title reigns with both The Rock and Al Snow after winning WWE title) Raven (WCW U.S. and Tag Team champion and WWE Hardcore champion after winning ECW World title) Terry Funk (won NWA World title in the '70s, before winning WWE Tag Team title and WCW Hardcore title) Ricky Steamboat (WCW World Tag Team w/Dustin Rhodes and Shane Douglas, and WCW TV title after winning NWA title in the late-'80s.) Samoa Joe* (TNA X-Division title and ROH Pure title after being ROH World champion) Tommy Rich (NWA World title, then NWA/WCW Six-Man Tag Tag Team title) Mikey Whipwreck (won ECW Tag Team title w/ Cactus Jack after being ECW World champion) Sycho Sid/Sid Vicious (WCW U.S. title after being both WWE and WCW World champion)
After the modifications, that leaves us with 36 men (and one woman) who have gone "from the penthouse to the outhouse," so to speak, winning lesser titles after capturing The Big One. If that's all we can think of, that's still a pretty impressive list when you think about who isn't on it. I'll gladly add more to the list, but I've stopped counting the two-minute Hardcore title reigns, no matter how many times they held the belt. Can we keep this list going?
Also ... read the list before you make a suggestion; I've seen Kane and Big Show on the list a few times already, and they were added almost right away.

If we're going outside WWE, then AJ Styles has held the X-Division & NWA Tag-Team titles after being NWA World Heavyweight champion.

hey guys new here and dont wanna be too much of a smartie panties, but you should remove the part about shawn michaels being eruopean champion after being wwe champ, Because he won the belt a few months earlier at one night only in the uk against the bulldog before regaining the belt at ss 97 (and we all know what happened there ) cheers. Shane Douglas: Won ECW TV Title after being ECW World Champion.
Same thing for Bam Bam Bigelow and Mikey Whipwreck. There might be a few others, but those are the three I remember.

Kyle. First off welcome to my home, OUR home actually. We all have no lies and thats why some of us have upwards of 15,000 posts. Secondly, HBK won the World Title at Wrestlemania 12 in 1996, then at Royal Rumble 97, then he won the European title in Fall of 97, so he did indeed go from world to secondary. It doesnt' count if they go back to world, because he still went to secondary.

I would argue weather or not if the Tag Titles are considered second rate. After all, they are a World Title. It's the only title where a second rate team, or a world class team, could win it and the wrestlers don't suffer from any down grade, only an up grade.
The Road Warriors were probably the only tag team to be considered the main eventers of companies. Huge shows were sell-outs with them as the main events, so the Tag Titles go hand in hand.
