Two questions
1. Had he won, would have their been a riot or somthing close to it?
2. Could that have opened the door for a tweener character? He could be bragging about beating the "traditional fans" golden boy in their fed while not peeving off the women and children.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say if 1-2 guys jumped the rail, 10 more MIGHT follow suit, but the only violence would be them getting their asses beat, and everyone else would then change their mind and go home.

Well I would expect some violent acts...Throwing beers, but no riot. I'd one up you.. I think they would've started throwing chairs. First one jackass throws one from the back and then it just goes crazy... and crazy with that. I really think the E dropped the ball by not having two things on that show thinking back to it... 1) During the Funk/Dreamer vs. Edge/Foley match, not having a Sandman run in once Funk went to the back. It would've been a defining moment if Enter Sandman hit.. and outcame the Sandman. Sure, you shell out some bucks for that music, but just once it's worth it. 2) Cena winning at ONS:2 by defection of an ECW original (someone like Sabu or Dreamer.. Dreamer's would've been an amazing storyline in itself... a man torn between the job security of the bigger brand and his love/passion of ECW having to be the bad guy in ECW and absolutely hating it.. until a huge glorious moment when Dreamer says "f*** You" and goes back to ECW) * The crowd's reaction would've been the most villafied reaction ever. Cena would be ECW's most hated foe. Big scene erupts at the end. * RVD ends up winning the ECW Title in a tournament for it, but vows to take the WWE championship as well. * Months and months go by, RVD gets screwed constantly in his quest to get another shot. Make a mini-feud of Dreamer/RVD where RVD wins his title shot by beating Dreamer. Vince accuses Dreamer of letting RVD win because he isn't loyal to WWE.. Vince tortures Dreamer by making him do the dirty work against ECW. * Cena makes a few appearances in ECW taking on guys like CW Anderson and being totally vilified, but not squashing the ECW guys and helping get them over with the crowd. Have RVD confront him each time demanding a title shot. * RVD finally gets his title shot at D2D, RVD is set to win, but McMahon comes down with Dreamer shouting "Save the Title! Don't let Cena lose!!!!" Dreamer goes in with a chair and Van Dam just stares at him and Van Dam starts screaming "These people love you Tommy! Why would you do this?" while the crowd is going White Hot for Tommy to turn... Cena gets up and is about to attack Van Dam from the side. Tommy nails Cena with the chair. Crowd erupts.. Van Dam hits the splash.. new champ. And then you set up McMahon's quest to destroy Dreamer and get the title back from RVD and set up Cena vs. RVD for WM where Cena wins the title back after RVD is forced to defend the title at every Raw PPV and no one can get it off him. It's called booking strategy KISS. This would require however... ECW having their own tapings and McMahon using a lot of continuity and sticking to a booking plan for nearly a year to really work. I just think it would've been the right way to get ECW off the ground.

If it was an ECW show and not a WWECW show, there may have been a riot, but WWE security would never let that happen.

Even if about 30 or 40 fans jumped the rail, they would've been taken care of handily by the security guards and the rather large professional wrestlers who would have enjoyed coming out from the back to get a few swings in. There would have been trash thrown (on par with, or more than, when Hogan joined nWo) but that's about it.
You could tell if the fans were truly going to "riot" when Cena and RVD went into the crowd during the match, and not one fan laid a finger on Cena.

Correct. It was a mere bluff by sheepish fans. Or it was just a funny sign. Leaning more towards the sheep theory here. Wrestling fans, marks mostly, are infamous for such behavior. But smarks do it too, i.e., the Cena hate Craze of late '05-early '06.

The chairs being thrown in theory sounds most correct.

They respect Cena and his safety as much as the next guy, they wouldn't harm him. I bet a bunch of people would've jumped the railing/thrown chairs/thrown trash or done something to make it known of their disaproval. It would've been an awesome moment.

I like the fact that "If [blank] Wins, We Riot" has become a meme among wrestling fans--even the non-smarks.
