might just be better if AFL just took a year off like they did 10 years ago, kind of odd how this happened a decade after they were gone the first time

That lawsuit that ultimately killed the league went back to the days of Jerry Kurtz’ commissionership. The bastard’s ineptitude finished off the league more than a decade after his reign of terror.

So what arena leagues are still operational if any? Or are there enough remnants to form some league called the XWFL? (IN YOUR FACE can also be their slogan that means nothing really.)

There’s the Indoor Football League, and I got the Oakland Panthers to root for.

So what arena leagues are still operational if any? Or are there enough remnants to form some league called the XWFL? (IN YOUR FACE can also be their slogan that means nothing really.) Be mindful of what league there is, given the volatile nature of indoor football and the fact that this whole thing is effectively on the low end of niche sports. As stated, there's the Indoor Football League, which has managed to carve itself out a spot as the #2 for years, and now is the #1 by default. After that, you sort of have to be willing to sacrifice some quality as there is Champions Indoor Football and the NAL, which while not on the same level as the IFL, are likely going to give you something worth your money. Then things get sketchy and it's exactly like gas station sushi or buying used tires in a crummy part of town and you start seeing things like the American Arena League, the Elite Football League, and a bunch of other things of various letters. More leagues are always in the planning stage (such as the National Gridiron League, which was supposed to start earlier this year, but didn't and most likely never will, or even something called Arena Football 3, which will use rugby-style helmets instead of traditional football helmets) but rarely go beyond that. So, in short; just stick to the Indoor Football League and be careful about anything below that.

Like Gindy said, the three to follow would be the Indoor Football League, Champions Indoor Football, and the National Arena League. But the NAL seems to be in rough shape, as they tried to merge with both the IFL and CIF during the offseason. The IFL deal never really materialized, but the CIF deal came to fruition and then fell through. So I'm very leery on the NAL. The CIF seems to be dwindling more and more. They lost Bismarck and Quad City last year, and now Duke City, the two-time defending league champions, moved over, mainly due to closer teams in Arizona and Tucson. So the CIF could be dying a slow death. The only one that concerns me right now in the IFL is the Spokane Shock. The owner has a bad track record in indoor football, having two teams that folded in years past due to money issues.

My main areas of concern right now are Duke City, who while they have closer opponents than in the CIF, are now going to be dealing with higher maintenance and upkeep costs due to how the IFL works, and the sudden arrival of the Frisco Fighters, who have yet to get their arena organized, and their owners are more than likely going to invest more of their energy in the Columbus, Ohio team that will come to the league in 2021, which was announced today. I don't know how long Duke City will last, but I am very confident Frisco will be a one and done unless the Germain estate can sell Frisco to a local individual, given how much the Metroplex doesn't support minor league sports of any kind (besides the Texas League's Frisco Roughriders, but I attest that due to the general wackiness of Dr. Pepper Ballpark more than anything else). Not to mention, the Oakland Panthers will play a game against the Elite Indoor Football's Las Vegas Kings, who are just playing against any available indoor football team they can due to being thousands of miles away from the other EIF clubs, yet for some reason, the EIF decided to make an "EIF West" on their website just for them. But I'll take that over being stuck with the American Arena League and it's dysfunction. I'm probably going to an Enforcers "game" now that they have claimed they will be at the Farmers Coliseum, but I will buy a ticket the day of just in case things are an absolute shitshow.

And it was also reported that the Germain family threw a ton of money at the IFL so they could be in charge of the sponsorship aspects, as well as television and streaming aspects for the league, along with other things. While I see this as partially a good thing, I feel that teams in smaller markets are gonna get left behind. Also, I feel that the YouTube streams will go away. So I am a bit concerned about this.

The West Texas CIF team announced their name yesterday. The West Texas Warbirds.
Also, it looks like Tommy Benizio is part of that ownership group now.
I give this team 2 years, tops.

So, it's a little over a month away from kickoff of the 2020 Indoor Football League Season, and I thought I'd do another preview like I did last year, and shamefully rip off UrinatingTree while doing so. Congratulations, Arizona!! Your arrogance has made you the whipping boy of so many people that it's been glorious. Seriously, you went undefeated throughout the entire season, your fanbase, organization, and coach all acted like arrogant dickheads, and the football gods pulled the ultimate karma, where you lost in the United Bowl AT HOME, WHILE UNDEFEATED, to the Sioux Falls Storm. And after that, you would think they would act a little better, act with some class, give the Storm a proper "Hey good job, you beat us." NOPE! Act like a bunch of salty, spoiled brats, blaming everyone but yourselves for the United Bowl loss. You are officially the most hated team in all of indoor football. And while all that is true, the talent level is still there for the Rattlers. I still see them being a championship contender, but there are a number of teams this year that will put them on edge. I'm not sure what to make of Bismarck. They have talent, that's a fact. But they have a head coach who isn't really that good of a head coach. I could see them winning maybe 2-4 games this season, but not much more. The old adage remains true: If you put lipstick on a pig, it's still a f***ing pig. Cedar Rapids continued their descent into LOLCow status, even with the rebranding from the Titans to the River Kings after being sold to a California businessman. Mark Stoute returned as head coach, and despite prior success, it did not translate to the past season, as Cedar Rapids went 1-13 and fired Stoute after the season, picking up Victor Mann after the Texas Revolution of the CIF folded mid season. Honestly, I don't see much improvement, although they might win 2-3 games this year. This team is in for a rude awakening. Yes, they are the back to back defending CIF Champions. But this isn't the CIF. This is the IFL, where there's actual competition. But nonetheless, this plucky team does have some talent, as well as a head coach with IFL experience, Cornelius "Pig" Brown, after they let go the head coach that's been with the team since the beginning, albeit with some controversy around it. I think they'll be a middle of the pack team. Not near the top, but they'll still be around .500, maybe just above it, and make the playoffs. Honestly, the only things I know about the Frisco Fighters is that they're owned by the Germain Family (who will bring in Columbus next season), the Head Coach is Clint Dolezel, former Dallas Desperados QB and head coach of the San Angelo Stampede Express (IFL 2010) and the Philadelphia Soul, and former Philadelphia Soul QB Dan Raudabaugh is the Offensive Coordinator for the team. They have not announced any player signings of sort, they have not provided any information on their team uniforms besides the logo, and so forth. I want this team to succeed. As a former Desperados fan, I love Clint Dolezel. But I'm kinda iffy on this. They might be the Dark Horse of the league this season, but I expect maybe 2-3 wins this year as well. Congratulations, Green Bay, you're out of the basement of the IFL and back into being a playoff contender! After going 9-5 last season and making the playoffs for the first time since 2012, the Blizzard look to be a dangerous team, especially after bringing back a number of key signings. I could see them being a top 5 team again this year, and make the playoffs again. Well, strap in, Barnstormers fans. This is where your flight is crashing down. Last year looked like a good possibility that they would at least attempt to repeat as champions. But when the football gods said "F*** you" in the semi-final game against Sioux Falls, that looked to be the beginning of a downward spiral. In case you don't recall, the QB of the Barnstormers, DeQuan Neal, left the game in the 2nd half with an injury, causing all the momentum to flow towards the Storm, who made a comeback win. After the season, Dixie Wooten, the head coach who brought the Barnstormers back to contention, left for the Tucson Sugar Skulls, and took most of the talent with him. They picked up a decent replacement, Ameer Ismail, but without the talent, I feel they'll be a middle of the pack team again. This is another team I'm uncertain of. They have financial backing, as the main ownership group consists of Roy Choi (owner of the San Diego Strike Force and Cedar Rapids River Kings) as well as Marshawn Lynch. And they brought in some talent, adding Lynch's little brother, Davonte Sapp-Lynch to the team. But if they don't add more talent, I could see them also being a middle of the pack team. I wasn't sure how well this team was gonna do last year, but Quad City surprised me. They barely missed the playoffs, and had a couple losses that if the ball bounced the other way, they would've made the playoffs. They brought back a number of talent from last season, so I could see them making the playoffs this year. Another example of "Lipstick. Pig." The Strike Force changed logos and colors, but it looks like not much else was changed. They still have decent talent, but a head coach that has no clue of what the f*** he's doing. Once again, they'll be a team that barely wins 4 games, if that. Not gonna lie, I was surprised with how last year ended, even as a Storm fan. I knew they'd make it to the semi-finals, but I didn't think they'd make it past that, let alone go into Arizona, and knock off the undefeated Rattlers to win their 11th Championship in Franchise history. With a number of talent returning, including....quarterback Lorenzo Brown....the Storm look to be another contender this year, especially with the new ownership group. They've also signed some decent talent, including former Danger QB Tommy Armstrong Jr. This looks to be another interesting year for the Sioux Falls Storm. The Spokane Shock are back, and it looks like they're gunning for a title right away. Bringing in head coach Billy Back, and bringing in a number of talent, they could be a championship contender right off the back. The big issue I see is the ownership. The owner has had a number of indoor teams before that have ended badly. And unless something changed, I don't see this ending well either. Another team that was a nice surprise last season. The Sugar Skulls surprised a lot of people, going 7-7 and making the playoffs. This year, they added Dixie Wooten as head coach and brought in a number of players from Iowa. They could be a championship contender this year as well. *JINXING PREDICTIONS!!!* I feel Sioux Falls will make the championship game this year again. I know, Storm fan, but they haven't missed the title game since 2009, and until they miss it, I will pick them to make the United Bowl again. Here are the 8 teams I feel make the playoffs this year: SPOKANE SIOUX FALLS ARIZONA TUCSON GREEN BAY QUAD CITY DUKE CITY IOWA With Spokane and Sioux Falls being in the United Bowl this year.

In "sideshow/circus show" league news, the AAL merged with an amateur league based in Pennsylvania called the MAIFL. Given a few of those teams had AAL opponents on the docket, it's not a difficult transition, but I do not exactly have high hopes for a league where several teams rely on Facebook as their only means of online presence and their website is still a disjointed mess where they're charging $85 shirts that just say "AAL" on them.
I plan on visiting the Enforcers home opener in March to see if A) the team exists, B) their opponents show up, and C) just how awful the AAL brand of football can be.

I have no indoor football teams to root for Wait a year, and I think the IFL may expand to the DC metroplex. There can't be any activity now, but I'm certain the Germain family wants to try and create a Great Lakes/Mid-Atlantic division in the IFL, which is why we have the sudden Frisco team.

Right now, the IFL has a relatively clear boundary between the Pacific and Midwest regions, and when Columbus comes in, their nearest opponent would be Green Bay, so perhaps they will want to look east for another team for this expansion franchise. Also, the IFL should try getting a Twitch deal or something to help with national exposure.

Both the IFL and CIF are postponing their seasons due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic.
Oakland vs. Iowa will still go on Saturday, but it will be an empty arena game.
