I was listening to Tom Lehrer and in one of the lyrics he mentions drinking champagne out of his date's shoe, something that was once considered all the rage among the higher class Ivy league lock jaws back in the day, and I never really thought about it until now How did this trend get started and what does it mean? It's one of the most bizarre American rituals I've ever heard and I've never heard any explanation on it.

I think I remember seeing Krusty doing something like that in an episode of the Simpsons.
He also drank out of the Stanley Cut(and threw up in it, too)
