Bad news for Aussie Crappers, but it looks like SEGA's awesome looking up coming Aliens vs Predators has also been denied a rating in Australia in the game's current form, effectively banning the game: kotaku.com/5418499/aliens-vs-predator-banned-in-yes-australiaYAY! Left 4 Dead 2 all over again! [/sarcasm] Hell as much as I bitch about the price of US games, I'm thankful that I get games unedited and with the cheapest prices in the world. Japan doesn't have a standard price(like we do with the $60 average), with the developer changing game prices from game to game. Some games will be $60, others, like Final Fantasy XIII is $80 in Japan. Also, Japanese games have varying edits to the games. The PAL regions get screwed ROYALLY on prices and editing ESPECIALLY Australia and Germany. But dear lord do I feel bad for South American gamers, in Brazil, they are FINALLY getting the PS2! And it's price? R$799, aka $461 USD. PS3 and 360 games in Brazil cost R$199, or $115 USD! HOLY f***ING s***! I will never, and I mean NEVER, bitch about the cost of games ever again. America and Canada have it lucky.... Oh, and Australia seriously needs a rating above MA15+ STAT.

They should just ban games based on quality.

Quick check of Wikipedia has: PC, 360, and PS3, so yup. I can already figure out what you're planning. Import that shit, son!

I hate to say this but companies that put a lot of pride into the quality of the game should just choose not to release them in Australia until the R18+ rating is introduced. Then retailers could point out htat Michael Atkinson is responsible for the denial of a free market.
You know, start playing hard ball. Probably won't accomplish anything but it would be funny as to see the venom directed at good ol Atkinson.

For the record, it's not quote-unquote " banned, " it is, in fact, flat-out, for-real banned. The Australian Ratings Board is seriously uptight about mature content in video games and bans violent / profane ones right and left.

The Australian Ratings Board is seriously uptight about mature content in video games and bans violent / profane ones right and left. It isn't straight up banned. It isn't like say what Germany does when they ban a game. All that's going on is, Australia won't rate the game, and Australian retailers won't carry unrated games, effectively making it banned, but it hasn't actually been flat out banned. It is like in the US/Canada with the Adult-Only rating in the ESRB. That game that gets an AO rating isn't banned, it is just none of the three console makers will allow AO games on their systems and no retailer will carry an AO game. That game isn't even effectively banned. It can still be sold on the PC, but as a downloadable game only.

The reason we dont have an 18+ rating is this guy. South Australian Attorney General Michael Atkinson The ONLY legislator opposed to it. He needs to pull his head out of his rectum & realise that the majority of video game consumers are NOT 10 year old kids! The stupid thing is that even he has conceded that the lack of an 18+ rating has meant that some games have been classified 15+ that should be 18+ so his logic of protecting kids is flawed. [/rant]

If it was a full out ban then it would also be illegal to be in possession of the game in question. It's dumb, thats all I'm gonna say on the matter.

YES! Glad to see Rebellion not playing by the OFLC rules. Most people that would want to buy it over here would order it from overseas and for less too.

Keep saying it. This sort of thing is hurting Australian retailers and not the developers.
