Yup, 41 years ago today "The Beatles" (aka the White Album) came out. One of my favorite Beatles albums to this day. So many hidden gems and songs that came out later (Something, Long and Winding Road, Jealous Guy) came out of these sessions:

I bought the Remastered (Stereo) edition some weeks ago. Nice to listen to it again without a wrecked needle murdering the sound.
Its a great album, but like The Clash's Sandinista! (which was overtly influenced by the White Album), for every good song you one that...is just there. More overall a classic than individually if you ask me.
Besides, as many good tunes McCartney/Lennon each produced, funny how it was Harrison who probably did the album's best song*. And I know I'm not the only one.
*=And he did it again on Abbey Road.

Brilliant album, been listening to it recently. Many overlooked tracks on it.

46 years ago, JFK was assassinated.
Weird day.

They say it's your birthday... well it's my birthday too!
Seriously, I love being born on this day. JFK was assassinated*, and both With The Beatles and the White Album were released. So much history.
*Not that I don't particularly love this, mind you, but I've always been intrigued by it from a historical perspective.

Awesome album. Changes from song to song really well. "Rocky Raccoon" and "Dear Prudence" are probably my favorite songs on from it.

My favourite Beatles album and one of the best albums of all time as far as I'm concerned. Loads of my favourite tracks are quite early on (Back in the USSR, Dear Prudence, Glass Onion)- that said, I also love 'Julia', 'Blackbird', 'Everybody's Got Something To Hide...' and I'll stop there before I go on about it all day.
The book about it, 'Revolution', is quite interesting if you, like me, like to read about how songs were made and who played what on them. Fer example did you know Chris Thomas, who produced 'Never Mind The B******s' and 'Different Class', plays (and produces) on a couple of songs?

What I love about the album is that it shows that the Beatles could excel at nearly every genre of music. It's weird eclectic "mess" keeps it constantly fresh with every listen.
The later tracks have grown on me over time. In fact, I'd argue that the closing but oft-overlooked run of songs before Revolution 9 (Honey Pie, Savoy Truffle, and Cry Baby Cry) are some of the best that the Beatles have ever done.

I've pretty much always liked every track of that album (except for Revolution 9 although I have played it all the way through many times.) Happy birthday by the way. Did you got to a party? (party)

An underrated good one is one that should have been the theme song for a TV show where a guy partners up with a kung fu ape.

Was never in to the Beatles until early this year, not because I just didn't like them but because for whatever reason I never gave them a shot. Friend of mine talked me in to it, and now they're one of my five favorite bands ever. Love so many songs off of this album. Happy birthday to great music!
*EDIT* Just saw when this thread was originally posted. So make that a belated birthday, heh.

How did I miss this thread when it was first posted? The White Album is my favorite Beatles album. I don't get when some people slam it because I love it to pieces and just don't understand the hatred at all. What I love about the album is that it shows that the Beatles could excel at nearly every genre of music. It's weird eclectic "mess" keeps it constantly fresh with every listen. I agree completely. I loooooooooooove Cry Baby Cry. You're right - that's one of the more over-looked tracks but it's one of my favorite Beatles songs.
