Former Miss Argentina dies after plastic surgeryBuenos Aires, Argentina (CNN) -- A former Miss Argentina died Sunday after complications arising from plastic surgery, the official Telam news agency said. Solange Magnano, 37, died in a hospital after being transferred from a clinic where she underwent an elective surgery on her buttocks on Wednesday, the agency reported. Magnano ran her own modeling agency in Argentina, and had been a model and Miss Argentina in 1994. She also was the mother of 7-year-old twins. The cause of her death was under investigation, authorities said. News of her death shocked her fans. By Monday, a tribute page on the social networking site Facebook had more than 830 members. "This is a horrible day. We will miss you, Sol," one Facebook poster wrote. Video: Argentine model dies Video: Model dies after plastic surgery "You couldn't be any more beautiful than you already were," another person added. "You had to pay with your life." Magnano's most recent project was a runway show to be held in December in her hometown of San Francisco, Argentina, according to Telam. In recent years, Argentina has become an international destination for plastic surgery. The costs of such procedures there are much lower than in other countries. Estimates say that 1 in 30 Argentines has gone under the knife, making surgeons here some of the most experienced on the globe. Medical tourism has seen a huge jump over the past decade, and is projected to be a $100 billion global industry by 2010, according to the Deloitte Center for Health Solutions.

Just saw this posted on CNN...and I was just about to laugh at the ludicrousness of the idea of the surgery when the words "dies" and "mother of twins" jumped out at me and slapped all the levity right out of me.
I mean, initially, it reminded me of Master Shake from Aqua Teen and how he got "back alley butt implants" done and all...but then the seriousness of it struck me like a ton of bricks and I realized those kids lost their mother, right at the holidays. Damn. It was a STUPID surgery to have done...but it doesn't change the fact that the kids lost their mom.
My heart does go out to the children.

*rimshot* But in all seriousness, it's very sad that the children ad lost their mother and right before the holidays. I just hope the children don't end up being the "butt" of many jokes when they get older. *d'oh!* My heart goes out to them as well. I couldn't imagine the pain of losing my mother.

Really, really sad and tragic. This should outride the absurdity of it all.

That's just a terrible way to go. She was still very young and had two kids.

That's just a terrible way to go. She was still very young and had two kids. Yep. People can joke all they want, but the reality is, two young children lost their mother, and right before the holidays, to boot. Not a whole lot that's very funny about that, IMO.

I guess you could say that she had an ass to die for.
Seriously though, I feel bad for the kids, but I don't have one iota of sympathy for the woman herself. People who undergo dangerous unnecessary procedures in the name of vanity is one of my biggest pet peeves. Why the heck can't anyone age gracefully anymore? I mean come on people stop fighting the inevitable and accept life as it comes. If this lady had done that she probably would have been able to enjoy many more years with her children.

The procedure consisted solely of an injection into the buttocks, no surgery and she died because of a fluke accident. You can't muster up just one little iota of sympathy for that?

I feel sorry for the kids who have to put up with all these kind of jokes from now on and when they grow up. It's not much of a legacy to leave, butt death jokes. -_-

What she was doing was considered an elective surgery. In other words an unnecessary procedure for no other reason then to temporarily tighten up her butt. If she had died in a car crash she would have my sympathy, but its hard to sympathize with a person who died after paying a man to inject poison into their ass.

The Botox craze pisses me off to no end, man. Ironically, actors/actresses that do this (looking square at you, Renee Zellweger) lose the ability to emote, because the toxin so tightens their facial muscles, that they can barely do anything aside from squint and pucker. I mean, did anyone see how f*****g ridiculous Renee looked in APPALOOSA, opposite all the other normal, rugged looking Western people? Jesus, she looked HORRID. And in the scenes where she was supposed to look shocked...yeah. Wasn't happening. I swear to God those vain people that do this won't be happy until they look all plastic and synthetic like something out of f*****g SURROGATES. Now, this is not to say that Botox doesn't have USEFUL applications. It does. However, smoothing out wrinkles and tightening butt cheeks are not among what I would consider them to be. Again, a tragic, and unnecessary end, and I truly feel for those kids.

According to what I heard on CNN, it wasn't Botox. It was a reasonably standard procedure where fat from one part of the body is added (evidently she wanted some extra to fill out an outfit) is taken and injected into another part of the body. Of course, until the Argentinian media actually releases worthwhile details, it's all just speculation (including on CNN's part). EDIT: And she died from a pulmonary embolism, which is a well known, though relatively rare, potential complication from many cosmetic procedures (per the gal on CNN this afternoon).

Doesn't matter what the actual details of the procedure were. Elective surgery is what it is, and its a shame that people subject themselves to unnecessary operations, because they wish to force their bodies to match their societies standard of beauty. At the end of the day its a form of self mutilation that usually results in increased health risk, doesn't matter if its botox, breast implants, or a lip plate.
