I loved it. It's fun and silly and over the top like Scarface was. I like that in a film sometime. How does that work? I mean considering Scarface had something that Saints lacks: A compelling character. Also a terrific memorable performance in that. Though in Saints' defense, I guess Dafoe in drag and slapping his cuddling boyfriend comes close. LOL, dude Scarface is SOOO dated. Tony's accent is NEARLY in parody territory (kudos to Pacino being actually good back then), the 80's montage with "Push it to the limiiiiit!" and the laughing on the telephone, and the silly part where Tony's about to have 30 or so men kill him and all he does is go "gotta get organissed!" and for some reason just decides to hang up the phone. Oh yeah, and his sister's dumb hairdo and "joo want to f*** me, To-nee?" And the music score, oh GOD. Funny how Boondock Saints gets slammed... Death Note was a big success in Japan and concerns the same moral discussion as Boondock Saints, and was WAY less fun and WAY cheesier. Boondock Saints at least had a great sense of humour (the "I'll have a coke" joke) and has Billy Connolly in it.

Eh from all accounts Troy Duffy did state that The Boondock Saints was a serious film with a little bit of black comedy added in. But it was really just another bland 90s hipster crime film that attempted to ride the coattails of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. Can't believe I forgot this post. You do realise Tarantino ripped off, I think it was called City on Fire from 1987 in Reservoir Dogs, right? What was original in Tarantino's movies was most of the conversational dialogue, which BS did not ride the coattails of.

Boondock Saints was a minor cult hit that got pushed WAAAAAAAAYY too fast/too big by its fanbase (and the Twilight comparison is not apt-80% of people have no idea what you're talking about when you mention it). The closest analogy I can make is the ROHbots who go on and on about how their product is THE ONE TRUE VISION and everything else sucks. Boondock fans have both that fanatic loyalty and the weird cultish devotion.

Eh yes I do since I happen to own City on fire on both DVD and VHS and also in a previous thread I stated that in my opinion Tarntino was nothing more than a shamless rip off artist. But I wasn’t comparing BS and RD/PF style wise but rather pointing out that only reason that BS was made was just like every other god awful hip crimefilm made during 90s which was to cash in on the success generated by Tarntino.

Yeah and you didn't explain why. Using your standard of logic, GoodFellas is a rip off of The Godfather.

Wow, I had no idea of this either. Everyone I've ever talked to who has seen the movie loved it. Same. It's one of my favourites, all my friends I've shown it to love it, my family love it, apart from my uncle who didn't get it... weird.

I like Boondock Saints and I think a lot of the hate it gets is because of the fanatical fans. Its a funny damn movie.

There's a documentary about this film and how Troy Duffy struggled to get it released called Overnight, which is better than the film itself. Its actually kinda sad. The guy was so convinced that he was making a great movie, but the critics panned it and it did little at the box-office. Have yet to watch Boondock Saints, but Overnight is one of my faves.

I've always enjoyed the flick. It's not high cinematic art, but it takes its subject matter, a shoot 'em up where the heroes are at once likable and funny but also pretty scary, and presents it well.
I do want to see All Saints Day, but I rarely get to theaters, anyway, so I'll see.

I thought that the movie was okay, but I think that its fans overrate it.

I thought that the movie was okay, but I think that its fans overrate it. This is the biggest problem I usually see. There is a hardcore fan base for it that overhype it way too much causing others to expect something as good as The Dark Knight or something and then they end up disappointed. I've never really understood the Tarantino relation though. I mean yeah it is kind of a 90s type of crime movie but the dialogue and action is nothing like a Tarantino movie. I think people just like to compare it to teh two hitman guys in Pulp Fiction even though they aren't much alike at all except for Jackson's character quoting the bible.
