so much critical heat?
Just reading the reviews and fan comments to the reviews on RT....wow.
People seem to see fans of this movie the same way a lot of people see Twilight fans.
I loved the movie...and by reading some of the comments about "unintentional parody" i think people miss the point.
To me it was a very intentional parody..silly and loud and fun and appealing to our base instincts and desires to see bad guys get the shit kicked out of them.
I can certainly see the movie isn't for everyone but is it me or do a lot of people take it too seriously and miss the point?
Or am *I* missing the point and it wasn't an intentional parody and therefore only good by accident?

Intentional parody or not, its just not a very good movie.
For a "overlooked cult classic," only half of that applies correctly to Boondock Saints.

I loved it. It's fun and silly and over the top like Scarface was. I like that in a film sometime.

I mean considering Scarface had something that Saints lacks: A compelling character. Also a terrific memorable performance in that. Though in Saints' defense, I guess Dafoe in drag and slapping his cuddling boyfriend comes close.

As was their Itallian friend who shot the cat.

Same guy who molested that corpse?
OK that was funny.
Seen the sequel yet?

Yeah. A lot of people hate it.
I don't think it's the greatest movie I've ever seen or anything, but it's certainly not the worst. And I do want to see the sequel, but it's not playing in my area yet.

Sometimes I just wanna watch people swear a lot and shoot things.
This movie appeals to that. I love it.

Sometimes I just wanna watch people swear a lot and shoot things. This movie appeals to that. I love it. I can agree with that. The critically panned but severely overlooked "Shoot 'Em Up" is also a great movie for this. The first few minutes of that movie are pure fantasticness.

There's a documentary about this film and how Troy Duffy struggled to get it released called Overnight, which is better than the film itself.
Its actually kinda sad. The guy was so convinced that he was making a great movie, but the critics panned it and it did little at the box-office.

I don't know if it's entirely intended to be a silly spoof as some fans see it; I just enjoy it because it has good action, it's funny as all hell, and its visual imagery (while somewhat ham-handed) is very striking, especially since the symbolism is something I find fascinating.
I don't get the intense hate for it. Maybe Troy Duffy wanted it to be taken seriously, but I don't, which makes it all the better.

Personally, I always just thought it was being gratuitous for the sake of being gratuitous. Just a film maker saying "Screw it, I want to make a movie where a lot of people get shot."

Sometimes I just wanna watch people swear a lot and shoot things. This movie appeals to that. I love it. Yeah, same here. Unfortunately, I just watched the original a week or so ago and it didn't really hold up for me compared to the first few times I saw it. So I'm not sure if I'm gonna see the sequel yet.

The sequel opens this weekend at my local theatre... but I'm unsure if it'll be anything near the first one.

Yeah, I can see that. But sometimes *I* say "screw it..I want to watch a film where people get shot" so it's a perfect fit.

Wow, I had no idea of this either. Everyone I've ever talked to who has seen the movie loved it.

Eh from all accounts Troy Duffy did state that The Boondock Saints was a serious film with a little bit of black comedy added in. But it was really just another bland 90s hipster crime film that attempted to ride the coattails of Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction.
