Taking a quick look at the season so far . . .
Megan Fox:
Fairly crap, although Fox didn't embarrass herself so much, except for the monologue, which was just horrid.
Ryan Reynolds:
How exactly do you bring Ryan Reynolds in and not use him? Really? There was a terrible Family Feud sketch about the Phillips family and they shoehorned Reynolds into a sketch they did with his now wife Scarlett Johannson, just awful.
Drew Barrymore:
This should be good, she's done this a few times.
Oh, wait, no.
Other than Andy Samberg randomly playing Scrooge McDuck, just a waste.
Gerard Butler:
Now, this I liked, Butler was actually allowed to be funny, the sketches actually were about things, AND I think I've watched "What Up With That" about fifty times, that was some funny random stuff, particularly James Franco just sitting there for no reason.
Taylor Swift:
Just because Garth Brooks and Justin Timberlake are good hosts doesn't mean every musician should be allowed to host.
And they let her pull double duty?
Neither Brooks or JT were allowed to do that the first time.
Still, she was shockingly decent, though whoever thought putting her in that Scared Straight sketch was funny should be shot.
Random Side Note - Wow, but she has some big feet.
January Jones:
She's hot, but dear merciful heavens, that was bad.
Grace Kelly Farting? Kristen Wiig Hitting on Her?
Just why?
The 1950's party planning was funny, though, as was the last sketch with her and Sudeikis staring at clouds and her saying the last movie she went to see was The Wiz, which is just impossible.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt
This was more like it.
Gordon-Levitt was game, and he put forth a great effort, the monologue was great, What Up With That? returned and killed again, amazingly, Update was the weak link this week, Gore aside.
Blake Lively:
Another mediocre outing, glad to see the Muppets return, Lively was passable, although it seemed like the costume department decided to see just how high they could make her heels before she whanged her head on a doorframe.
And it now appears Steve and Alec STILL aren't showing yet, because . . .
December 12 - Taylor Lautner
December 19 - James Franco
Hopefully one of then will show up in the new year. Share your thoughts on the current season.
And pray for a Baldwin/Martin tag team Christmas episode.

Really, Johnathan Michaels, vice president of CHAOS, really? A thread about Saturday Night Live's 35th season with almost nothing but bad word about it? REALLY?
Anyways, I lol'd at most every segment of the season so far.

I haven't seen much of the new season beyond the first episode, and it renewed my distaste for Megan Fox in every way imaginable.
Though I should get back into it -- I FINALLY came around on Samberg recently and started enjoying his work. Any good new digital shorts this year beisdes "threw it on the ground" or whatever that was?

So, we're six episodes in and the general consensus is that this season is just plain awful... thats been the general consensus of SNL period in the latter half of this decade

I actually thought Swift was a pretty decent host.
This season for me, has been split right down the middle.
I just waiting for the now yearly Timberlake episode

I haven't really found anything to be funny this year. The only thing that got a chuckle out of me was Taylor Swift's Monologue Song. But, I didn't see Swift's episode outside of that.

Honestly, I have to agree with Jono. I think this season Sudakis and Hader have carried the show. Also to add, the January Jones episode was only watchable to see when she would just crack and she screwed up in the first segment!

Honestly, I'm one of the show's biggest defenders, but I know this season has been hit or miss.
The Ryan Reynolds thing still angers me, though.

I loved Jason's Jimmy Stewart impression..I was shocked how badly that sketch stunk (pun intended). I kinda liked the whole "Jon Bovi" thing the first few times..but I hate it now.
January Jones was an awful host.
If Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin host a show together..I would lose my mind.

The Megan Fox episode was 'meh'.
I really enjoyed the Reynolds episode - yes, including the Family Feud sketch.
Drew Barrymore episode was okay.
Gerard Butler's episode was pretty good IMO, "What's Up With That" is one of my favorite sketches of all time.
Taylor Swift's episode was okay, nothing outstanding except I did get a great laugh out of the 'Scared Straight' sketch - not due to her taking part in it (I think she would have done better as one of the kids being scared straight) but the sketch itself is just funny to me.
January Jones's episode felt much like filler although I did enjoy a bit of it. The Grace Kelly skit went on for far too long though I felt the premise would have been okay for a 2-minute skit.

Best thing for me so far has been the Beauty and the Beast parody.
Hader remains great, I think it's unfortunate that Samberg seems to have been pushed aside in performing for sketches. Hader and Samberg are clearly the 2 most talented and funny performers there by a country mile.
The two new female performers are also disappointing.

I've said it at least a hundred times: Fire Seth Meyers. He's the show's head writer, so that might cause a few problems.

Butler's Eipsode had the best opening I have seen on SNL. Everything else (EVERYTHING) was bad.

i usually get drunk when i watch snl and end up kind of enjoying it, but it seems like they have too much of a ferrell-era mentality when it comes to recurring characters. like lorne wants to make more movies like ladies man, superstar, etc. but the charcaters they choose to recur aren't strong enogh to even warrant more sketches, like kristen wiig's "tilly", or the lesbian reporter thing they did with january jones.
needs more kenan. i keep hoping they'll do a kenan and kel 10 years later sketch or at lest in some way acknowledge that we all grew up with him. every weekend update should have his jean k. jean french def-jam guy though.

I can't reply in the thread hating on "What's up with that?" so I'll reply here.
Second time they do the skit and yeah I still love it like I first did. The joke IS that his guests (a.k.a. surprise cameos) will never get a chance to speak.
Anyway...Jake the Snake!
I haven't seen the whole show but I knew Joseph Gordon Levitt would "bring it". He's awesome.

He's awesome. I agree with you, Levitt was probably the best host of the season so far. He was like NPH last year, an outside selection but incredibly solid. AS far of the regulars I can point at the four pillars holding that show up right now and they are Samberg, Sudakis, Hader, and the underrated Thompson. Kenan needs to do more regular sketches as some of his talent is being wasted by under use. The women of course are weak and I would say even Wiig has come back a bit.
