Since I've moved to a different city, I met (sorta, we're hardly even acquainted) this girl that frequents, of all things, an anime club that I joined.
And she's like...perfect. She's smart, she's funny, she's hella pretty....she likes David Bowie, which is like...awesome...and she cosplays. She freakin' cosplays! When I saw her at an anime convention a few weeks ago, she was cosplaying as a steam punk character. Thats so rad on so many levels.
So like, everything about her screams "DO IT, DAVE! GO AFTER HER!" And then I suddenly remember that I'm a pessimistic son of a bitch, and all I can think about afterwards is how I so totally don't deserve a girl like that. And then I black out because my brain pretty much fights itself in situations like that.
I have no idea why I'm telling you this story. I feel like a real wuss whenever I have to complain like this.

You got to explain what an anime club is. Is it like a real club or just a group that hangs out?
Anyway, I think yer a bang up fella. you might as well try. The worst you can get is a no. If you don't try, that's already the answer.

IF YOU DON'T I WILL COME OVER THERE...AND I'LL...DO SOMETHING...THAT YOU DON'T PARTICULARLY ENJOY!
THAT ISN'T A CONVINCING THREAT BUT PLEASE ACT LIKE IT IS.
DOOOOO IT.

If you do NOT at least make some kind of attempt toward her, I will find a way to acquire Mr. Fantastic-like powers. I will then proceed to smack you upside the head from across the galaxy.
In short: DO IT DAVE!!!

I say go for it.
Like Kash said, the worst you could get is a no... or that she already has a boyfriend.
Still, it wouldn't hurt to try.

Sack up, man. Take a chance, what's the worst that can happen?
Need to start taking that advice myself...

I say this with the utmost respect....
GATHER YOUR EFFING GRAPEFRUITS AND DO IT!!!!
All jokes aside, that whole "pessimistic son of a bitch" thing is kind of troubling. I know how that feels, and it's a vicious cycle that prevents you from ever getting out. And I learned the hard way that nobody else can pull you out of it, you just have to give it a shot and, even if you don't fully believe it, keep telling yourself that you DO deserve it. Every pretty girl deserves to go to a ball!

It's got nothing to do with grapefruits or any testicular fortitude of any matter.
The whole premise in which you're using to psyche yourself out is fear of getting rejected. So why aren't you butthurt when you reject yourself? You're doing the very thing you're afraid of to yourself... so you can keep from hearing the same things you tell yourself from another person?
What's the point? You live ONCE. You have several things in common with this woman on a purely aesthetic level, and you owe it to not only yourself, but her as well to give this a chance.
I always looked at it like this; you could either kick yourself for the rest of your entire life or you can give yourself the opportunity for something great to happen. You know how long getting rejected hurts? Not nearly as long as missing a badass opportunity for at the very least a friend.

Our pessmism, and lack of balls, are the reason guys like us watch porn at home.
But I'm still dealing with it, so I'm sorry that I can't help you. Want to trade places?

you're "a pessimistic son of a bitch, and all you can think about afterwards is how you so totally don't deserve a girl like that"?
Are you freakin' kidding me? What you should be asking yourself is "Why not me?" If you don't take a chance, someone else will, and we all deserve to be happy, so why not? If you know who you are inside and you know what you're looking for, and this girl fits the bill, put it together.

Dave.....Go for it man.
If you don't, it'll always be there, staring you in the face and gnawing at you. And come a few months/years down the road you'll see her, she'll have some douche for a boyfriend and you'll know you had that chance, if you stay friends you'll hear her complaints and know the guy's a jackass and being a nice guy you won't say anything or you'll tell her the truth and give advice and she just won't take it.
Dave, Just go for it man....don't keep yourself wondering.

Go for it man and I know how the pessimistic thing works since I had it pretty much through out of high school. I just learnt just try something new everyday that'll make people judge you in either a positive or negative way. Over the point you'll just gain confidence and chicks love confidence. So just go for it and get that chick.
You'll feel more positive if you do get that chick and you'll still feel positive if you don't by just going for it. You can do it Dave. You can do it Davey boy.

I know how you feel, bro. And I know how hard it is to approach a girl you really like with the fear of rejection being all too real. But the pain of rejection will probably pale in comparison to the pain of spending your life wondering "What if?" So just do it. Just try to be cool and don't blow it up into some sort of big deal. Just ask if she'd wanna hang out some time and if she says no, just be smooth and move on.
And if you think you don't deserve a girl like that, then what better way to say "Screw you, fate!" than to get her to go out with you?

Being a guy named Dave that is also pessimistic, I'll give you the advice you don't need.....GO FOR IT!
I've talked myself out of so many relationships that could have been something, or they could have been nothing. You just have to give it a shot. I can't take my own advice, so maybe you can.

Dude, you would be surprised who can find you attractive. I say go for it, and I'm a pessimist and a skeptic usually. What harm can it do?
