I thought this would be a fun thread. What things (toys, or whatever) did you want the most as a kid and did you get them the year you asked Santa/your parents/whoever?

The Optimal Optimus toy from Beast Wars. Didn't get it. But I did get Transmetal Tarantulas and Transmetal Optimus instead, which was pretty cool.

The Ghostbusters backpack. Eventually got one years after I'd grown out of toys.

The ghostbusters fire station, which I got, I still own it too although it's in the loft.
A NES, I got two, one was taken back and traded for some games.
Never did get a SNES though.

Every year asked for a Nintendo. Never got it because "Santa" thought if I got one I'd never do my homework and I'd be preoccupied with it.
BUT I finally got a Super Nintendo and surprise, my grades did not slip and I was still a good student. That was in NY. Once we moved to Georgia, I had a real tough time.

In the era where every other kid was playing the N64 or the Playstation, I was stuck with an NES. I asked for a Playstation for Christmas. I got clothes. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Ever since the Playstation was released in 1994, it was always on the top of my wishlist. Every year. When the PS2 took over the reign for the PSOne, that was on top of my list. I never got one. Too expensive, my parents always said.
Eventually I did get a PS2, back in 2004, which I bought myself. However, I did get a PS3, the most expensive Playstation model to date, for christmas in 2007.

Nintendo (never got it. My dad finally bought one used off a family he worked with who were getting an SNES. Only they sold all their good games. Seriously, there wasn't even SMB1!) SNES (got it. My bro and I had to split it. I later received full ownership after I traded him the rights to my grandparent's Chevy Celebrity which was to be my graduation gift.) Virtual Boy (never got it. Not for Christmas... not for my Birthday the next August when they were $30. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) ) Creepy Crawlers (my bro and I wanted these every year. We never got them. My dad said they were a scam with refills and we'd get into trouble with them. Truth was, we didn't need them. We once sculpted warm tar into a dog turd and laid it on our sister's bed.) A DVD Player (my dad said I'd only have enough just to get the player and no DVDs. My friend had a nice collection by then and my grandparents would've had enough to get 2... maybe 3 if I went used at Blockbuster. Plus, he said they were going to be a fad. I ended up getting one when I started working the next summer. He bought an identical one a week later.) My own TV (I got it... my parents used Montgomery Wards that was the first TV they bought new in '79. My dad charged me like $75 towards my Christmas gift. I had it maybe four years before overheating. He ended up covering the rest of my replacement when I got a repaired Zenith for my birthday in '97. Oddly enough, that one still works. I just replaced it late this summer.)
