So, this thread is a few days late, since the actual incident happened this past Friday, but I wanted to make sure he was locked up for real instead of "just a rumor."
I'm a cook/dishdog at a small, mom-and-pop restaurant in the small, religious, conservative town right next to my hometown. For the past four months since I started, I've worked practically side-by-side with a guy named Mark. We got along pretty well, although I would often comment to myself that he complained too much; all in all, though, a seemingly decent guy.
Mark was dating Jennifer, the niece of Jacki, the owner of the restaurant; Jacki hired Mark "as a favor" since she really is a sweet lady and seems to genuinely enjoy helping people out. Apparently, Jennifer started working Mark's nerves, and he decided that he was going to break up with her, "as soon as she can find another place to live, because I don't really wanna put anyone on the streets."
About two months ago, Jacki hired Sally, a thirty-something, not-attractive-to-me-but-hey-it-takes-all-types, married mother of two. Sally was assigned a dishwashing position, and has been splitting the duties with me on the days when I cook.
Notice in the above paragraph, nowhere did I say Sally was happily married. She would complain to anyone who would listen that her husband hadn't done this or that, they hadn't had sex in x-amount of time, etc.
There was Mark's way of dumping Jennifer, and he and Sally started dating.
Fast forward a month or two, and it's Friday/payday/my day off. I go in to get my check, and I immediately hear from Bob (a cook/Jacki's boyfriend) that "Mark got arrested by some U.S. Marshals today. Right back there in the kitchen."
I found out yesterday by overhearing a conversation between Jacki and a Michigan State Trooper that not only did he have an outstanding warrant for whatever-the-hell (my gut tells me either drug possession or assault was the original charge, and they picked him up on a probation violation) but - get this - he was a sex offender ...... and his name isn't Mark. It's Lyle. Now there could be this whole huge shitstorm, depending on what Jacki knew, what Sally knew, how long Mark worked there, whether or not he had proper documentation, etc.
If it turns out that Jacki knew more than we thought she knew, she could go to jail and the whole restaurant could be shut down.
How crazy is that?
I don't really know why I decided to start this thread and share this information with you all, but I did. If anyone has comments or similar stories, I'd love to hear them.
