I can't imagine it not being Craig T. Nelson. The guy on the phone said Monk was going to put 2 and 2 together and it would lead to him. Craig T. Nelson knew Monk was working on the case because he was there when he signed the warrant. I don't think rape is going to be involved in any way, but I can't wait to see what it's all about. Trudy was a reporter so I'm guessing it was regarding a story she was working on.
Other notes: I hated that they brought in Melora Hardin to play Trudy. I have trouble seeing her as anything but the bitch she played on The Office! Trudy is supposed to be the most likable person imaginable, and they get someone who's best known for playing an absolutely horrible person.....kind of a bad choice!
It's nice that they gave Natalie a serious boyfriend to end the show and I can't believe how beautiful her daughter has grown up to be.
It looks like Randy is going to be moving to New York to be with Sharona. He said he "was gonna miss this" hinting he'll be leaving the force.
I hope they don't kill Monk off to end the series and I hope it's left open to have a special or two in the future. Unlike sitcom reunions, this would be the type of show where it would be fun to have a special 2 hour mystery movie somewhere down the road.

Trudy's murder has something to do with the secret she was keeping from Monk, though. And she said on the video that it was something terrible that happened before she met Monk. Melora Hardin has played Trudy since 2004. I would have been pissed if they replaced her. So she's had the role of Trudy longer than she's been on The Office.

That makes a lot of sense. Maybe it was just an affair rather than rape. Because whatever happened, happened before she met Monk, so if it were rape, than at least logically he would've went to jail, long before she was murdered If she didn't report it, he wouldn't have went to jail. The reason I say it will be that he raped Trudy, is that it has to tie into the midwife's disappearance, tie into the doctor's murder while he was updating his old files, why Trudy would wait over 12 years to come forward and has to be a reason to kill 3 people. If it was an affair, why would Trudy wait that long? An affair would not destroy the guy's career, and have Trudy fearing for her life. Disher's definitely moving out to New Jersey to marry Sharona. He had the plane ticket to Newark, and even mentioned to the Captain "I'm going to miss this." They're setting up Disher's ending to be him marrying Sharona. An affair could destroy the guy's marriage, and if he was in an election at the time (like, say, for District Attorney), that could destroy his chances to get elected. There's on big question I would have about your rape theory. It was a birthing clinic and not an abortion clinic, right? As far as I know, natural birthing clinics don't do abortions, so why would there be files on the guy there if that was the case? How would a midwife know about it? Midwives aren't generally involved in abortions, as far as I know. It could have been something else that she knew somehow, but then why would that connection be made in the first place?

I'm just happy the show is getting an ending, and that the past several episodes have been little features for the supporting characters, like the conversation with Disher about all the crap he takes from everyone and Stottlemeyer's wedding.
Also, enjoyed that Monk thought his special surprise was 60's/70's sexpot Joey Heatherton a few weeks back ;D

Well, I sincerely doubt they'll go through with poisoning him to death. That worked so well for the Lone Gunmen.

Looking at the previews, I'm starting to wonder if it ain't Stottlemeyer.

Well, they revealed what happened to her right at the beginning of the episode. {Spoiler}Jedi was close, she had an affair with the judge, wanted to have the baby, who died, and he wanted to meet her the day she died.

Thats not the best finale I've seen, but it wrapped up the show nicely and I'm very happy with it. After 8 years I was glad to get closure too.

I have a dumb question: Why is it that so many programs' finales have those montages? I mean I get the reason, but I always its like a nice way to save money and not necessarily have to pad the whole teleplay to the regular length. See Coach. Anyway, yeah good conclusion for Mr. Monk. And it opens up a return down the road in a TV special. It'll happen.

I haven't seen it. So I want to ask, why was Trudy killed? I'm not 100% clear on that point.

I haven't seen it. So I want to ask, why was Trudy killed? I'm not 100% clear on that point. {Spoiler}She had an affair with the judge played by Craig T. Nelson that got her pregnant. When she gave birth, he and the midwife told Trudy that it died, but they actually lied and put it up for adoption. Then, the midwife came back a decade later when he became a judge, wanting to confess to the whole thing. So, he killed her and had Trudy killed. 12 years later, that doctor played by Ed Begley, Jr. found out and blackmailed him, so he killed him. Then, he learned Monk was on the case and had him poison to prevent him from learning the whole truth.

So this entire convoluted (but brilliant) series was all based on a love affair? That just seems .... anticlimactic.
