This could be somewhat of a dumb question, but the more I thought about it, the more it had me unsure. In the US manual for Super Mario Bros. 3, the booklet describes Bowser and his 7 children causing havoc in the Mushroom World. Though in later games, they've kinda implied that they're nothing more than minions to him. With the most recent release of New Mario Bros. Wii, they've returned, parading with Bowser's newest kid in the franchise, Bowser Jr. But I've always wondered, does that make Bowser a father of 8? Where's the wife? Does he pay child support?! But most importantly, is Bowser the father? Will he have to go on Maury?

I imagine the wife may of been a regular Koopa, which would imply Mario killed her.

Yeah they're his kids. I don't remember any game where it was implied otherwise.

I always found more confusion with the fact that they were all named after 80s icons (except for Ludwig, but it depends. Did they make Beethoven movies in the 80s?). And if that's the case then why does Bowser always go after Peach? I know he's made B Jr. to think she's his mother in Sunshine, but I don't see them as being, well, compatible.

Why just type in Peach and Bowser into google without safe search and you'll see they are quite compatible good sir!

There was an old Nintendo Power magazine that mentioned that Bowser's wife was 'Clawdia Koopa'.
So I'm guessing she's the kids mothers. Bowser doesn't like to talk about her, so either they had a messy divorce or she died and talking about her is just too painful. Of course this somewhat explains Bowser's obsession with trying to make Peach his 'bride', as clearly he's searching for a new mother figure for his kids.
I mean who's gonna talk to Wendy once she starts going through 'womanly changes'? Birdo?

No wonder we don't hear much about the kids mom.

It's been a hell of a while since we've seen the Koopalings. I think it's time for them, all seven, to get their own game. Just one game for all seven will do. Imagine where that one could go as long as Nintendo doesn't Vince Russo it.

Imagine where that one could go as long as Nintendo doesn't Vince Russo it. What we really could use are Mario games that split from the norm. It could be called Bowser & Son and have the game from their perspective, it worked well for M&L: Bowser's Inside Story after all. Perhaps those Koopalings will tag along while Ludvig van plays the piano. If Nintendo does that though we need Super Wario Cousins, with Wario and Waluigi wreaking havoc, and ah, Super Power Princesses? I guess. This time Peach and Daisy rescue the two heroes.

For some reason, I seem to remember the Koopa kids from SMB3 originally being billed as Bowser's nieces and nephews, but I could be remembering that wrong. Yeah, Birdo would be the most confusing person for a woman going through those changes to go to for advice, given her "history". By "history" you mean Nintendo not deciding what his/her gender was, right? Oh, Birdo has an official gender all right. He's a dude who looks like a lady. By choice.

I tried explaining Birdo to my cousins. They thought I was just making stuff up. You'd think 8 year olds would know what a cross-dresser is!
