I dont care how many great games there are if I can not play them the traditional controller way. The Wii mote/nunchuck setup doesnt appeal at all to me, sorry. Its criminal to me that most of these games dont have the option of a traditional control pad. The ironic part is that Microsoft and Sony have announced that they are moving towards motion-capture controls. The landscape of game controls is changing due to how successful Wii's set-up has been. Traditional control pads won't always be around.

I think the one of the reasons motion controls are tacked on is to limit emulation in the future (it's obviously not the main reason).
Still they're fine if the game make proper use of them, not just pointless waggling.

The controls aren't the issue, though I will say I still plug in my Gamecube controller to play Smash Bros. because the Wii controller just doesn't work for it. The issue is the fact that any of these "Can't miss! Must have!" games have about 2 hours of gameplay because the difficulty level has been turned down to insulting levels. The games are enjoyable for a short period of time, then you realize you're halfway through it already and just opened it 45 minutes ago. Super Paper Mario, Mario Galaxy, even Twilight Princess feel like Nintendo took what worked before, duplicated it exactly, but took out any challenges or difficulty. Everything I've played has felt stale and about as difficult as a flash game.
Save your money, I have never been less pleased with a console and I basically grew up willing to go to war with any Sega fan over Nintendo obviously being the superior console of choice.

YouTube the Project Natal preview from E3. One of the examples was a fighting simulation.

It's obvious to me why Sony and Microsoft would explore motion controls - because they're getting their asses kicked. Hard. At least in console sales, that is.
I don't mind the motion controls and have never had a problem with them but I agree that too many companies use them as a cheap way to make money whereas the 1st-party material has mostly been good and properly utilized the motion controls.
I think that SSBB has the real answer though: neutral compatibility.
If you like the motion controls, use them. If you prefer the classic controller, use it. If you prefer just the Wiimote turned sideways, use that. If you dislike all three of them, dust off that GC controller, cuz it works too! And best of all, you and up to three friends can use any of these options at once and even on the fly if you're fast enough.*
More Wii games need that IMO.
*Seriously, I love to play my friends in Brawl and then midway through a match I just detach the Nunchuck and play sideways just to prove my superiority at a game that features plumbers fighting electric rodent. ;D

I owned a Genesis and PS1, but would always go and play the SNES or N64 my friends would have(yeah, weirdest damn thing, I was like the ONLY person in my elementary school with a Genesis, and one of only two people with a PS1, everyone else had Nintendo). Truth be told, I didn't really follow gaming news until....2003? Hell, prior to 2003, I didn't even know the Xbox existed! I knew of the PS2 and GameCube, cause my family had those systems, but I didn't know of the Xbox.

I've hated Mario games since MArio 64 put me to sleep. Glover and Bomberman 64 actually managed to be fun unlike that pile.

If you're going to bash something that's popular it helps to have a reason. To easy, stages were boring, boss fights were letdowns, hated the music, and the camera was ass in Galaxy. Smash Bros. was the last Mario game I enjoyed than Brawl came out with it's horrible netcode and ruined that. Plus I've all ways been a Metroid and Zelda guy.
