This thread begins and ends with Gambler, a little known Parker Brothers game from the late 70's. Think Monopoly, only with more retro debauchery. There were apparently two versions made: One in 1975 with an "Old West" feel, and a 1977 version that is pure 70's cheese. I had the latter. When I finally have kids, this will be the first "real" board game I buy for them. Yes, I'm being serious. ![](http://images.boardgamegeek.com/images/pic12550_md.jpg)

Escape the Blob - It was a pretty cool board game. You have up to 4 players. Each player has 5 little mcguffins with specific colors to the player (red, blue, green, yellow) and in the middle of the board is The Blob. Who eats the mcguffins when he lands on them. You have 2 die. One has numbers. The other has "Mcguffins" and "Blob" logos. You roll the dice and lets say for example you got "2" and "Mcguffin". You could move a Mcguffin 2 paces. If however you got "6" and "Blob" you could move the Blob 6 paces. You win the game by eating the other players Mcguffins. Also they weren't called Mcguffins officially, I just wanted to give them a name shorter than "little plastic lumps".

It's not obscure, but I am often surprised at the number of friends I have who have never played Stratego.
I love Stratego much more than, say, Risk, because it's fun, it's simple, and like Battleship, it can be completed quickly, so you can play multiple times without wanting to hang yourself.

I've played Fluxx. I thought it was cool. Really liked Stocks and Bonds. It's a Capitalist board game.

For the classics, I gotta go with Uncle Wiggly. For later games, FIREBALL 'FREAKIN' ISLAND!!!!!!!

As far as actual, real board games, I'm going to give Medici a mention. I only got to play it once, and watch it twice, but it really was an interesting game, especially to watch. www.gamecabinet.com/reviews/Medici.html

Headache ![](http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2003/2112373348_8a7fc79dfa.jpg) That looks awfully like Frustration. Maybe the names differ between US and UK. I agree, though, that's a good'n. My pick: ![](http://www.toymonger.co.uk/GamePictures/atmosfearII.jpg) ATMOSFEAR. I dunno if it's underrated, but hardly anyone I know has heard of it. But it's an awesome game. The first (and only, I think) video boardgame I heard of or played. When you're 11, it's some scary stuff.

I remember I got 13 Dead End Drive for Christmas, probably about 15 years ago now, and it was one of the few games me and my sisters would actually sit down and play together without arguing or fighting.

I always thought Crossfire would have been more fun if you could pull the guns off the board and shoot stuff with them.
