I don't know about you guys but I love me some Jim Varney. Didn't really matter what he did the guy was multi talented. Many people only know him as Ernest, which was his most well known popular character. What many don't know however is just how versatile Varney was. I really believe that if Varney had not gotten tight cast as Ernest he would have gone on to be one of the better character actors of the 90s.
Just to give you an idea of the mans talent. The guy enrolled in a university college at 15. At 17 he was performing stand up professionally in nightclubs and coffee houses. He also studied Shakespeare, and stage later became a Shakespearean actor for a bit. Another thing that many people might not know is that Varney was also a musician who wrote, and sang many original songs folk to rock.
One of my favorite Varney songs
So come on guys show some appreciation for one of the most memorable personalities to ever grace the stage, and screen.
RIP Jim Varney may your work live on forever.

I always wanted to see what Vern looked like I always wondered if he was a real person or a figment of Ernest's imagination.

I loved his local commercials that would come on when I was young... and that followed into his TV series he had on CBS.
Funny stuff.

Jim Varney was a national treasure. It still pisses me off that Hulk got top billing over Jim for 3 Ninjas: High Noon On Mega Mountain, despite the fact Jim was in the movie for a substantial amount of time more than Hulk.

I always wanted to see what Vern looked like I always wondered if he was a real person or a figment of Ernest's imagination. I think the idea was that you were supposed to be Vern, or at .least seeing through his eyes for those segments. Basically Vern is a helpless bystander who can only watch and horror and occasionally defend him self against Ernest path of destruction. Vern is kinda like a mute Red neck Carl Winslow, only your seeing thing from his perspective.

I think I'm one of the few people who has seen Dr. Otto & The Riddle of the Gloom Beam. Very funny movie that is very obscure. If you saw the Ernest show on CBS, you know who Dr. Otto is.

My siblings and I just watched Ernest Scared Stupid this past October. His fights against the troll are pretty epic. Can't forget his guest appearance on The Simpsons as Cooter, either. ![](http://www.ecovoxrecords.com/noodlemuffin/curseofsimpsons/icons/JimVarney.jpg)

In 3rd grade, my friend brought a remote control to school, and pretended to be Electro-Man from "Ernest Goes to Jail". He's now 25 and everyone still calls him Ernest

Loved him as Ernest and liked his guest appearances on "Roseanne", as Prince Carlos: ![](http://ia.media-imdb.com/images/M/MV5BMTUzNTcxNzgwNF5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTYwMjkzOTM2._V1._SX267_SY400_.jpg) I don't think anyone in the audience recognized him during the first appearance, he was that good. The writers added Ernest references during the second appearance, though.

![](http://www.moviefancentral.com/images/pictures/21133/image_7e48935e6.jpg) It would've eventually happened. I would've seen it. I would've enjoyed it.
