Some good stuff:
Albums: Kasabian - West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum Muse - The Resistance Flaming Lips - Embryonic
For the following I have not heard full albums by the following but I have been impressed by their work:
Them Crooked Vultures - For the song Mind Eraser, No Chaser Nine Inch Nails, Jane's Addiction and Street Sweeper - For the NINJA 2009 tour sampler EP (yeah I know I'm clutching at straws for this one) The Middle East - for their debut EP 'Recordings of the Middle East - EP' The Big Pink - for the great song 'Velvet'

OK, so I haven't heard The Prodigy's new album at all. If you had the chance to sell me on the album with TWO songs, which two would it be? (Yes, I'm too busy/lazy right now to do my own research at the moment.) If it helps, I love the 90s Prodigy stuff. Just 2 huh? O tough but I'll go with..... and....

Yeah, it's more like early/mid "Music For the Jilted Generation" Prodigy, but that's not a bad thing.

Baroness - Blue Record
Probably the best album of the year year for me, barely overtaking Mastodon's masterful "Crack The Skye"
A few more of my 2009 favorites: Sunn0))) - Monoliths and Dimensions Shrinebuilder - Shrinebuilder Snail - Blood YOB - The Great Cessation OM - God is Good Jay-Z - The Blueprint III The Prodigy - The Invaders Must Die

I should also admit that I'm one of the few as well who likes Lady Gaga. I didn't think she'd break out into superstardom, as my first thought was "eh, she's too weird for the mainstream".

Stuff I dug the most was:
The Lawrence Arms- "Buttsweat and Tears" EP Grizzly Bear- "Veckatimest" The Flaming Lips- "Embryonic" Big D & The Kids Table- "Fluent in Stroll" Cage The Elephant- "Cage the Elephant" Monsters of Folk- "Monsters of Folk" Wilco- "Wilco (The Album)"
The Modest Mouse and Rancid records were good, too, just not among the elite of the year for me. I haven't been able to check out the new Mountain Goats or Built to Spill yet, but I imagine those will end up on my list.

It's a year with a Mood Area 52 release. Can't find anything off their new album, but here is some of their stuff:

I'm glad people are saying Prodigy. I think that is the only album i bought that was released this year. Very good.
Other than that i've just been looking for music from the 90's, 80's, 70's and 60's that i've never heard before.
EDIT: I also bought Liebe ist fur alle da from Rammstein. That was also pretty good.

I'm also glad people are saying Prodigy, just for reminding me that they're still around and still awesome. Too bad I didn't know about the new album sooner or else it'd probably make my list.

You're not alone, I'm obsessed. To be honest I can't really think of anything that came out this year that I really listened to beyond Crack the Skye and Dethalbum II. 2008 was a much better year for metal to me.
