Reviewer 1 - 10/10 "Although the game is linear until the midway point, the story is substantial, like no FF before it, with its own distinctive appeal. The battles based around changing characters' roles is radical, and highly strategic. The tempo is speedy and you get very excited when fighting strong enemies. Being able to restart battles is a user-friendly feature I'm happy about.
Reviewer 2 - 9/10 "Unquestionably the highest echelon of event and movie scenes. Moreover, changing Optimas on a dime, the varied abilities and being able to use multiple magics at once bring real exhilaration to the battles. That high quality is unfortunately offset by a story that stays linear until the midway point. The lack of gimmicks during the middle of the game also worried me."
Reviewer 3 - 10/10 "The overwhelming graphics expressing every nook and cranny of this unique world, along with the praiseworthy direction, moved me!! The battle system is applicable both to beginners and micro-managers. They progress quickly, and have ratings, so you never grow tired and can always fight with a feeling of urgency. The melancholic story is also so dramatic, you can't tear your eyes away from it."
Reviewer 4 - 10/10 "I doff my hat to the overwhelming graphics and story. Since the game's various systems become denser as the story progresses, you find yourself pulled ever deeper into the experience. The summon battles take careful planning and strategy, so I was frustrated a few times, but the feeling of achievement when you win is something special. You'll be sorry if you don't play this!"

I'm gonna come over to Japan and I'm gonna stick my Buster sword straight up your nose! By the way, Famitsu is a Japanese video game magazine, 'cause I know someone's gonna ask.

And it's not like American game magazines that hand out full marks willy nilly, only 13 games have got perfect scores and 19 (Including FFXIII) have got 39.
So yeah it's pretty good.
I'll wait and see some videos of people acctually playing it before I decide if I get it or not, I despised 12.

Well, Famitsu knows what they're talking about.
Still, after 12, I can't help but be wary about Final Fantasy.

Famitsu can't be taken serious. Why? Because "reviewers" in Japan aren't critical. Or at least not as critical as reviewers across the rest of the world. Famitsu tends to praise even games they give terrible scores to.

I'm one of the biggest proponents for all things Japanese on the forum. It is just, you can't take Japanese reviews seriously, because every single reviewer is too damn nice! In other words, Famitsu and all other review sources are just advertisements, when you get down to it.

For what it's worth, XII got a perfect score.

For what it's worth, XII got a perfect score. I suppose opinions can be so diverse but I honestly can't comprehend anyone thinking XII was a perfect game. I hated everything about it...and I even have a Final Fantasy tattoo. It was one of the biggest letdowns I've ever had as a fan of a series and I've been put off Square Enix games/tie ins/unnecessary sequels/hot topic for a long time now. Hopefully XIII will be a turn around now that they've scrapped the combat system of XII, though I am wary of the character design with everyone looking like they're from a Tommy Hilfiger commercial.

They also gave games like Bayonetta and Nintendogs perfect scores. Are those games good? Well Nintendogs is fun and Bayonetta looks fun, but neither game is perfect.

Opinions homes.
And for whats it worth the only thing thats a letdown with XIII for me the combat system. I adored the combat system in XII. Made a game I thought was fun as hell all ready even more so when I got my Gambits down.

And yet it may be my favorite in the series. Like all FF games, opinions are very polarized.

^Yea you're right. A lot of people seem to hate Final Fantasy IX and yet it is my favorite. I suppose it's good that a series can be so diverse, for good or bad.

The thing with Famitsu is that they review games based on how anticipated these games are, and before the review scores are printed in the magazine they are always approved by the game publishers first.
Basically, I wouldn't trust their reviews any more than those of IGN or Gamespot.
Edit: I like how that cartoon version of reviewer #3 is dressed up as Morrigan Aensland for whatever reason.

exactly what was everyones problem with Final Fantasy 12? I throughly enjoyed it and eagerly anticipate this new one. The gameplay itself was fun as all hell, IMO. But the story wasn't developed well enough and Balthier and Basch were the only party members I found truly interesting.

the main complaint I kept hearing about 12 was that it didn't have a gooey teen love story that people were used to.
and really, people are getting angry at a 39/40 a NEAR PERFECT SCORE ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH FOR PEOPLE?! COME THE f*** ON!

But the story wasn't developed well enough and Balthier and Basch were the only party members I found truly interesting. My opinion is this, except for the gameplay. Honestly, I thought the Gambit system was f***ing stupid. The game basically played itself. [Sad Cockney Accent]...it's an insult to the Cajun, it is.[/SCA]
