What are some great original songs from movies and also what are some great scenes from movies where the music made it better?

Toward the beginning of Donnie Darko when "Never Tear Us Apart" by INXS kicks in. That just sold me on the film from the start. That whole movie had great music actually.
I also loved it when Patrick Bateman killed someone with Huey Lewis as a soundtrack in American Psycho.
As for original music, the score from both T2 and The Fifth Element are awesome.

"Mary & Max". Every song is great. "Where The Wild Things Are" has an original soundtrack by Karen Orzolek of "the Yeah Yeah Yeahs"

T2's main theme was very good. Which reminds me of another great original music score main theme. Escape From New York. It is so recognizable and I loved how they redid it a little more rock n roll in Escape From LA. Speaking of the Escape movies John Carpenter who does a lot of the music for his movies is just really good at that. I believe Assault On Precinct 13 was also like this. I'm not sure about They Live.

the entire soundtrack to the 1986 transformers movie.
possibly the greatest soundtrack of all the time.
but the best music ever in any movie is the music from jaws.

The film Once is full of great original songs. One of them even won an Oscar I think.

The score to Last of the Mohicans is amazing. I have probably gone through 2 or 3 copies of it from overplaying. Just simply beautiful music.

Patton - that music still gives me chills thirty-something years later. Bridge Over the River Kwai - same thing.
The Big Chill - the movie is kind of cheesy and dated, but the soundtrack is awesome. Singles - my personal favorite of the Cameron Crowe movies. High Fidelity - it was all about the music.

Angus had a terrific soundtrack. Yes it did. Tons of great 90s Alternative rock. Not this fake stupid alternative crap of today like Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco.
