When did Sci Fi include superheroes? Since Stan Lee started doing stuff like the galaxy-spanning Silver Surfer storylines of the 1960s? Also, I realize this is unpopular, but that site needs ALOT less Whedon fanboyism than it has. It shows up in every single article written. Hell, River Tam won their "most badass character" tournament, the mistake was making the match winners being decided by fan vote. What do I mean? Well, River Tam won most of her matches by having nearly twice the amount of votes as there are members/readers of the site. The Whedonites rigged the tourney.

I'm a fan of the Book, I just want to state that first 1. I liked the change because it made alot more sense, people would have just face palmed the squid. What works in a comics/books, Doesn't always work in film. 2. Alan Moore doesn't need to be put on such a high pedastal, He's the Quentin Tarentino of Comics. I like Alan Moore's work but their are much better writers out there. I agree with both points, but "no squid" caused soooooooooooooo much fanboy whining. I enjoy Alan's work as a writer. As a human being, I would gnaw my own leg off before I had to stay in the same room as him. Technically there WAS a squid. The devices Ozymandias used were either called, or their project name was called, S.Q.U.I.D. or was it S.Q.U.I.D.D.? Either way, during one part of the movie, you see an acronym that spells squid written on one of the devices.

Still, Watchmen was (warts and all) one of the most accurate film adaptations of a graphic novel I've ever seen, and its lack of success made me sad. Most superhero adaptations (even good ones like Iron Man or Dark Knight) change the characters a great deal, for various reasons. Seeing a virtually page for page adaptation of a graphic novel was rare treat for me.
And yeah, io9 exists in a parallel universe where Dollhouse gets 10.0s in the ratings. It wouldn't be so bad if the Whedonites actually admitted that (gasp!) there are interesting sci-fi universes out there besides the Whedonverse!

Zack Snyder has been the most accurate director in adapting comic book films, that I've seen. Both Watchmen and 300 were page for page from the books, except for the subplot to 300 about Leonidas' wife trying to get them backup, he made all those scenes up, but he had to, even with the slow motion effects if he released the film with just the parts from the book, it would've been too short of a film.

Changes don't bother me so much, what bothered me is While the Graphic Novel (which I have read a number of times) entertains me, the film bored me out of my mind, I was so damned bored I almost walked out.

I wouldn't say I was bored, but for the most part, I didn't really feel anything when I watched the movie. It had my attention, it just didn't do anything with it. If that makes sense.

Ok here's my take on Watchmen (and I did read the book before seeing the movie).
As a movie it's long, some characters are unnecessarily violent, you never see Silk Spectre shanking a guy or breaking bones in the comic, they're supposed to be Crime Busters...not the Punisher.
The parts left in for the liberties they take with the storyline, how about ten minutes of sex scenes all together. Yea we can include that but we couldn't throw in the cloned alien, ok. Because that would of taken up so much time. Also the fact that explaining the cloned squid would of taken too much time but yet they made the effort to include the cloned purple tiger.
The acting on a whole is sub par. especially the woman playing Silk Spectre and Dr Manhattan were separately, incredibly wooden and overly emotional for a character that is supposed to be detached from emotion.
Also, everyone knows how unnecessary the ending scene with Daniel throwing Ozymandias in to the tvs was. One it makes the moral message for us by saying 'you've perverted humanity by doing this!' Thus by the end, the pan over of Rorschach's journal, the audience is supposed to think. 'Oh now humanity won't be perverted because humanity will know the truth and Ozymandias won't get away with it!'. It ruined the ambiguity of the story.
The awful, pervasive slow motion was just ridiculous. There is one scene where Silk Spectre turns around...and for some reason it's in slow motion. No point what so ever.
There are many, many reasons why this movie didn't do as well as some people would of liked.
Oh also I guess I deserve a punch because Identity Crisis in my opinion was unmoral, putrid and just an uncomfortable, sickening story with no heroics what so ever.

Oh also I guess I deserve a punch because Identity Crisis in my opinion was unmoral, putrid and just an uncomfortable, sickening story with no heroics what so ever. Three things: 1) The squid got cut due to the impracticality and HUGE expense doing something like that would have tacked on to an already shaky production that was in horrible budgetary woes to begin with. It's exclusion had really very little to with the length of the film. 2) The sex scene (however hokey and forced it came off as in the film), WAS in the book, and should have been included in the film. Could have been done differently, but it still should have been in there. 3) I TOTALLY agree with ya on the slow motion overkill. There WAS a lot of it, and quite frankly, that scene with Spectre you're talking about IS laughable. Her flippin' HAIR floats for like six seconds before the shot resumes normal speed. As to this list itself....I have to say that it flat out fails. Not only are very few of these things true, honest to god flops, but a lot of them were damn GOOD. You want to talk about sci-fi flops....how about Syfy Network in and of itself? ;D
