From what I remember from the "Forever Hardcore" doco. Terry Taylor said that PE had turned down a contract from WWF and went to WCW instead. So when they came to WWF they were booked in a match with the Acolytes and Terry Taylor informed them that they would be stiffed a couple of times and they should just take it. However it went way further than Terry thought. And a couple of days after the match, PE were fired. Indicating that WWF omly hired them to humiliate them. So they hired PE just to humiliate them because they turned down a contract from WWF to go to WCW. Thats classy . Thats Vince for you. I hate this bullying/shooting/tough guy aspect of wrestling, its completely unprofessional and just dangerous.

It's harsh, but it's always been a part of wrestling. If Vince or the APA hadn't done it, someone else would of. You don't put your life in the hands of people you loathe and not run into problems.

I never believed that for a second If they wanted to humiliate them they never would've paid them they would have stuck PE shirts on two jobbers and annihalated them What I heard was the TPE came in acting like they were big stars and just generally pissing eveyone backstage off(Hence the Russo storyline) and that eventually sombody just went and told the APA to demolish them Its pretty common knowledge that the PE were hired just for the sake of jobbing them out and making them look ridiculous. A lot of guys have pissed people off backstage. If that is all this was about why are they pretty much the only guys in history to get this treatment? Kronik is an example of someone pissing guys off backstage and they just got jobbed out and released after beating down the BoD, they didn't come in day 1 and get portrayed as jobbers as well as stiffed.

If it makes you feel any better, Steve-O's not even a wrestler, and they had Umaga annihilate him.

A bit different. Outside of ECW I never liked PE anyway. Watching those brutal chairshots and such just offends me. That didn't even look anything close to a wrestling match.

Given I'm sure they're okay now, I have no trouble admitting I am glad this was televised and not just a house show. At least we get to check it out.

Was that meant to be a no DQ match or something?

I could have my dates off here entirely, but could this not have been punishment for when PE goofed up during a RAW match with the Brood?
From what I remember, they received a bloodbath, the lights went out and PE had disappeared. The following segment was a backstage interview (with whom, I can't remember) and there standing in the background was Rocco, oblivious to the camera. Somebody must have alerted him to the camera, and he quickly slinked away after. Anybody else remember this?

Apart from the chair shots, this doesn't look too out of the ordinary for the Acolytes at the time. They were being built up as seriously nasty pieces of work, the Ministry's hatchet men.
Vince has hired people before to humiliate them, so doing so with Public Enemy wasn't exactly unheard of. But I doubt he hired them just so the Acolytes could beat the crap out of them. Any stiffness in that match was down to Bradshaw and Farooq, not WWE management. Vince would get more fun out of just jobbing them out in dark matches and curtain jerkers, then keep them off tv altogether.

Yeah, Rocco was 'missing' after the bloodbath and was later found strung-up backstage, but he did appear in the background of another RAW segment. I don't think the Acolytes match was punishment for that though.

This is Bradshaw we're talking about. Are any of us really surprised?
