They main evented 6 ppv's in two years. Were you sick of seeing this match? I thought it got a little old by the end. Still not as stale as the current HHH/Orton/Cena Raw main scene though.
In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell - 5/11/1997 WWF Title: Champion Undertaker beat Steve Austin
SummerSlam - 8/30/1998 WWF Title: Champion Steve Austin beat The Undertaker
Breakdown: In Your House - 9/27/1998 WWF Title: The Undertaker & Kane both pinned Champion Steve Austin to win the title. The title was declared vacant the next night.
Rock Bottom: In Your House - 12/13/1998 Buried Alive: Steve Austin beat The Undertaker
Over The Edge - 5/23/1999 WWF Title: The Undertaker beat Steve Austin to win the title
Fully Loaded - 7/25/1999 First Blood Match for WWF Title: Steve Austin beat The Undertaker to win the title

Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and say that I liked this feud. Did it get a bit old towards the end? Yeah, but overall, it was a feud I enjoyed watching play out.

"The answer is 3:16...the number of times the Undertaker has worked a pay-per-view main event with Austin."

Not at all. The buildup to SummerSlam 98 was fantastic.

In Your House: A Cold Day in Hell - 5/11/1997 WWF Title: Champion Undertaker beat Steve Austin Austin making his upstart transition as a face against the WWF Champion. Plus, take in the feud with the Hart Foundation. SummerSlam - 8/30/1998 WWF Title: Champion Steve Austin beat The Undertaker Highway to Hell. 'nuff said. Breakdown: In Your House - 9/27/1998 WWF Title: The Undertaker & Kane both pinned Champion Steve Austin to win the title. The title was declared vacant the next night. Just about the climax of the Austin-McMahon feud. Still left fans wondering how Austin could pull this one out. Rock Bottom: In Your House - 12/13/1998 Buried Alive: Steve Austin beat The Undertaker Undertaker became a heel and became far more sadistic, freshening up their confrontation. Plus, Austin getting crucified sacrificed was awesome. Over The Edge - 5/23/1999 WWF Title: The Undertaker beat Steve Austin to win the title Fully Loaded - 7/25/1999 First Blood Match for WWF Title: Steve Austin beat The Undertaker to win the title These matches ended the Corporate Ministry/Austin-McMahon feud, so there was anticipation surrounding it. You also the Austin-Undertaker feud between April and May of 2001, and in April of 2002.

Excellent most times. I really enjoyed the 2001 Judgment Day feud where Taker attacked Austin in the ambulance.
And like Corporate Champion S-Chrome mentioned they also met:
Armageddon 2000: Six man HIAC Backlash 2001: BOD vs 2 man Power Trip Judgment Day 2001: Austin v Taker Survivor Series 2001: Team WWF v The Alliance Backlash 2002: Taker vs Austin for no 1 contender

I think by backlash 2002 it was stale...but from 98-99 it was THE match

For comparison's sake, Orton/Cena just wrapped up a series of five PPV world title matches in three months.
And it wasn't exactly a fresh feud when it started, either.

Anyone notice how they traded off wins? Taker/Austin/Taker/Austin/Taker/Austin Yes this also helped keep the feud fresh and interesting. When the matches could go wither way which they did. With the rise of Austin, Undertaker going form face to super over Ministry heel and everything those both Incorporated also kept the feud fresh. There was a whole lot going on and surrounding there feuds and matches. More often there were feuding with each other as a secondary feud to someone else. I would agree they may have got stale after 'Attitude Era' however during the 'Attitude Era' they were very interesting to epic feuds and matches. Unlike Orton/Cena who as others have said just had PPV after PPV match and the idea was already worn.

This rivalry was so long because Austin refused to work with new guys, so they could only use Undertaker for the longest time. Triple H was big enough to work with mr. Austin when he came back in 2000.
And, to me, the Austin/Undertaker program was just as stale and just as boring as the Cena/Orton/HHH stuff we get these days.

Austin when he came back in 2000. Where did you hear this? Austin practically made The Rock into a 'super star' and main event wrestler. He also worked with a few upper mid carders on Raw. Also Cena/Orton have had more matches in the past few months (and only been focused on each other) than Austin/Undertaker had in the mid to late 90's while using each other as a 'secondary feud'

The only thing I didn't like about their feud was when Vince McMahon was revealed as the HIGHER POWER. We all thought it would be Jake the Snake, and it would have made sense with the little history Taker and Roberts shared (Undertaker/Warrior/Jake Roberts feud) and the little story Roberts and Austin shared too (Austin 3:16)
