To be honest, I think that kind of stuff is meant to bury Punk, and if it's not meant to then it will end up doing so anyway. To anyone watching ECW, the credibility of his gimmick is ruined. Actually, the Christian segment was worse because he just stood there and let his lifestyle be insulted instead of throwing fists/elbows/knees/feet at his face. This opened the floodgates, we know how WWE creative loves to repeat themselves, so don't you guys think this will continue to happen? Hopefully it leads to Punk just exploding and beating the crap out of people who question his lifestyle, but I don't see that happening. I think it's all meant to point him out as a pretentious ass who hides behind a straight-edge shield of righteousness.

I thought it was funny.
I don't drink personally, but watching Punk get punk'd was pretty funny. Plus, it gives him something to work off of. The guy could sell a powerbomb by the invisible man, but it really helps that he has all these other characters giving him grief over his lifestyle and gives him more to react to.
People complain about his boring promos, but they're supposed to make him seem like a jerk and they do. And that's coming from a guy who agrees with heel Punk on a lot of stuff.
The funny thing is - that's real. People who do drink will often try and convince people who talk about how wrong drinking is that they need to "lighten up" which causes the teetotalers to have a more extreme reaction.
No on ever tells Undertaker to lighten up even though he loves a good brewski, but still.

The words of Tiffany on ECW regarding CM Punk's failure to consume alcoholic beverages. Very rare for me to get offended, but this would be one of those cases. Tiffany is supposed to be a face. I don't expect that kind of comment from a face. If a heel had said it, it'd be fine, but why would a face basically condemn anyone who makes the life choice not to drink? Thanks for sending your feedback! We here at WWE Creative just love to hear all the thoughts and suggestions from the WWE Universe(TM)! To answer your question, CM Punk is what we in the Sports Entertainment business call a "Bad Guy." That means that everything he says is bad, and when he talks, you are supposed to boo. It can be confusing sometimes, but hopefully that clears things up! Thanks for being a part of the WWE Universe(TM)! Oh come on! Since when does the WWE actually listen to feedback?

I didn't see ECW, but from reading this thread, it sounds like she was telling him to get off his pedestal because humans aren't perfect and he shouldn't judge people for minor things.
She might have said it in a different which could have offended you, but that's what it sounds like to me.

I think you might be reading too much into it. CM Punk's character is that he is a tight ass who can't accept that people can make their own decisions, even if they do differ his. He tried to say Tiffany was wrong for drinking in the same segment, so she told him to loosen up.

Well as a Virtucon Fembot Model v.4.3, Tiffany needs alcohol to fuel her power cell.

Good gravy.
Since when were pompous, self-righteous asses other than Hulk Hogan meant to be faces? Seems like every kayfabe slight against CM Punk raises the question of why he's booked as a heel.

I wonder if theyd ever do an angle where CM criticizes people for minor offenses, but its revealed that backstage (bring back gtv or something) he's secretly getting drunk, to point out his hypocricy<sp>.

Do we need a topic like this everytime someone makes fun of Punk for not drinking?
Its starting to get annoying. Punks character also clearly brings it on himself.

Look at it this way.
CM Punk has been hounding and degrading the audience for months, and forcing his lifestyle choice on them. That's wrong. Tiffany was just playing devil's advocate, and giving him a taste of his own medicine. She was being satirical of the fact that CM Punk degrades other's lifestyle choices, so she just played devil's advocate and did the same to him, with a generic insult often used against straight edge people.
At least, that's the least insensitive reading of the scene I could gather.

CM Punk has an extremist character, meaning that even if you just have a glass of wine at a party, its equal to getting wasted at a Metallica concert. Been there done both and got them mixed up.

I think its the wrong way to put heat on CM Punk and its burying his character. Like when Christian called him a nerd. I mean, Raven in ROH forcing beer down his throat is one thing, because it got tremendous heat, but this makes Punk look like a joke. Thing is, I've liked the way they've handled his character since his debut. But, this is the first time where the WWE's writing really hurt him.

Eh, if that was true every guy Rock ever feuded with would be seen as a joke. If Punk and his character have lost momentum at all, its because WWE have shown the fans that he is second rate against anyone that matters. He was allowed to look good against Jeff Hardy and thats it. Morrison beat him a bunch of times recently when he was still WHC. Taker squashed him. Back during his first title reign he barely escaped Big Dave AND JBL over the summer and his title reign was given the Chris Benoit treatment [WHC coming out for the RAW opening match or not even the main event on PPV? OKay...]. Things like that do a lot more damage to a guy than someone calling him a dork. Look at Jericho, his character has been mocked and embarrassed countless times over the year but he is still credible because he is booked to look capable of beating main eventers and when he does hold any championship its given focus and made to be a big deal.

I'd imagine the remarks made by faces towards him are strictly kayfabe- and to be honest, they're right. The way the Punk character goes about preaching and the standards he holds everyone else to aren't human. It's a cartoonish exaggeration, like almost everything else in wrestling- therefore Punk gets booed, but not because of the fact he's straight edge in itself.

I don't get why we're supposed to cheer for Taker of all people though. Okay, "He's the Undertaker!" but nearly everything he does is straight form the playbook heel tactics.
Attacking an opponent after their match is over? Check. Attacking another wrestler after their match is over with ANOTHER person? Check. Attacking his tag team partner after the match is done? Check.
All the guy does is sneak attacks and then talks trash on how he'll make everyone rest in peace.
