Pretty much my all time favourite (well behind Sting, but I don't watch TNA). He's amazing and can work the crowd like no one else.
Sooner he comes back, the better.

Edge is an amazing performer, but I just have a feeling that all his injuries will taint his legacy, and he's also had some very pointless title reigns.

I honestly never even thought his Rated R superstar crap is anything to write home about.

I am a big Edge fan, but honestly? I think he has been in the right place at the right time many times in his career.
He is a good wrestler and good performer, but I think all the chances he was given certainly helped him out. Thats not to say he was ever bad at all, but from the Brood to E&C to the face run to the paranoid psycho to the Rated R superstar, they have always seemed to have a plan for him. I think if you gave a lot of other WWE mid carders the same chances Edge got you'd have close to the same results.
Also, had it not been for the real life Lita-Edge-Matt affair, I think Edge would be roughly where Christian is now.

Well, 99 times out of 100, you do need management to trust you in order for you to succeed, and it probably says a lot that even with all of his injuries, that management has the massive amount of trust in Edge that they do.

Not everyone is destined to be a character along the lines of Austin, Hogan, etc.
1.) Edge is a CHARACTER so cheap that you want to slap him. He's gets his way on his own terms. The Money in the Bank for him capitalized on that. He makes you angry, he makes you want the face to beat the piss out of him. You really have to sit down and ask yourself how many people have forced that kayfabe reaction out of you in the past decade. I'm sure you can count them on your fingers.
2.) Edge as a WRESTLER holds his chops. He's definitely slowed down from his Hardcore days with Christian & the Hardy's but in that manner has kept his in-ring mechanic up. I can't say that I've seen too many by-the-numbers matches from him. He doesn't get visibly winded and shows his persona in his matches. He's no Angle or ECW-level worker (thats a good thing) but he's nowhere near boring.
One thing though is that every finisher Edge uses that has his name in it SUCKS HARD!

I'd argue that all his title reigns served a purpose. It's not like he dropped the belt once only to win it back three weeks later. I'm looking at you, Mr Helmsley.

On the mic he is great and deserves every ounce of respect he gets in that aspect. If you're an up and coming wrestler, you take notice of what he does on the mic. Both being funny and being serious, he cuts five-star promos regardless (unlike Jericho whos serious promos are among the most dry and boring in the WWE IMO).
In the ring though, I think he is rather overrated. He can take the bumps all right, but he's never seemed real high energy or performs all that greatly. And I agree, using the spear as a finisher I am not sold on at all.

While he is very good both in the ring and on the mic, sometimes he comes off as too much of a try-hard, where he just seems he has to force it. Although, this happens more when he is a face than a heel, so I'm apprehensive about what looks to be a face turn when he comes back.

In the last few years, he's become great.

Other than Shawn Michaels and Undertaker, who are LEGENDS in the sport and always give us good matches, Edge is the best wrestler in the business right now, both in terms of ring skill and charisma. Edge is not good, he is GREAT!

It's so funny that this thread just reached my notice. I was thinking of starting one similar -- I have always liked Edge, but I know that some "elite" (read: elitist) rasslin forums tend to hold him in contempt. I was curious what the opinions were around here, a place where people seem to actually enjoy wrestling.
I am watch Edge's NO DQ match from Smackdown Sept 2002 vs Eddie right now (wweclassics.com FTW!). This thing has morphed into one of the most insanely brutal ladder matches I have ever seen! (and I am including the Briscoes ladder match from Man Up) Great bumps. Super energy. A series of insane spots towards the end. The crowd was insane for it.

The greatest heel Smackdown has ever had. He has amazing athleticism and his mic skills are beyond phenomenal.

I dunno, I think JBL gets that nod (if we're counting brand split era only - if not HHH from 2000 era would be). But Edge was awesome and he's easily top 5, maybe top 2 or three, depending on my mood.

Edge is the one guy who I actually enjoy seeing Randy Orton work with. He gets a lot of credit for that if nothing else (and there are many, many things to like besides that).

Edge is sorta like Austin, where he used to be very good in the ring but injuries slowed him down to where he had to adjust his ringwork due to his limitations.
He makes the most of what he can do in the ring these days, and his character and promo work usually make up for what he is lacking in that area. Plus he is like Austin to where he can put together a good enough match even though his style cant be based around hard bumps or crazy spots anymore.
I think he is one of the better guys WWE has had, and definitely not pushed down anyones throat. He was pushed from the outset but he worked hard to get enough reactions and a good enough character to break into the main event. Its not like Orton where he was immediately thrust into world title contention after a short push when he wasn't ready or good enough to handle it.

Name me 5 guys over the past 5 years in the WWE that have been better overall then Edge? He's the only guy in the company that has been able to get Cena to be a total face in a feud(Even with Orton the crowds were mixed at times).

You will see how good he is when he returns, heel or face, he will inject some spice into the programming that has been missing for some time
