I am not a fan of Edge. I don't hate him but he has always sorta just been "there".
My question is...is Edge good or is he just another guy forced down our throats to give us the impression he is good?
My OPINION is that he is pretty much another Cena. I mean in terms of forcing someone down your throat. I never really thought his in ring work was that great or his mic skills. Always thought he was very generic on the mic when not with Christian.
Add to that some of the most pointless title reigns in history and I just dont see the big deal.
Has he had good matches? Definitely. Actually one of the best matches I have ever seen was his hair vs hair match with Angle. A truly GREAT match.
Has he cut some good promos? I guess.
Does he have a cool theme? Yeah I like it.
However I just don't get it. Never saw him as a world champion or main eventer and I still don't. Something just doesn't click with me.
Some guys just fit the mold of a big time, larger than life, major player. Austin was the bad ass, Rock was the arrogant stallion, Hogan was the Hero, Taker is the phenom and the measuring stick.
What is Edge? The smirking, sometimes crazy, sometimes quirky jerk?
Just my opinion and I wanted to know other feelings on this since Edge's push was brought up in a previous post.

He's one of the greatest heels of the past 10 years.
He carried SmackDown for an entire year and helped change Vickie from a timid babyface who could barely speak a sentence straight to the single most hated heel GM figure in recent memory.
Not that I'm one of those guys who mistakenly thinks that turning heel makes everything better, but I either hated or was ambivalent to babyface Edge. He won me over completely with his Rated R heel turn and I've marked for him ever since. I also really like that several of his heel angles have involved really awkward real-life circumstances that have pushed the envelope, but never been stupidly tasteless, like the Lita-Matt-Edge love triangle and dating the widow Guerrero shortly after Eddy's death. Edge has "gone there," but he's never turned these angles into a Katie Vick or Big Show/Bossman coffin ride.

Edge has been one of my favourites since he debuted, really. He's had a couple of highs and lows, and his early 2000s face run was very blah...but that was probably his low point for me. Really, I just think the man is damned amazing.

Edge is a tremendous heel. Granted, I think he's a bit bland as a babyface, but I bet his return will change that. Just let me say this, I became a true believer in Edge as an elite performer after he managed to do the impossible: He got Cena cheered. Lets go back to 2005. In matches against Jericho, Angle, and Christian, Cena was Boo'd. Loudly. Pair him with Edge who was a red hot heel at this point, and boom. Cena is back getting face reactions. And after that Edge's star just continued to rise. He's one of the best heels in recent memory and is a hell of a performer to boot. I always tend to enjoy his matches. Even dating back to 1998. Very crisp in the ring even then.

I do not buy his spear as a finisher though. That is one of the lamer finishers in WWE.

He's probably the best wrestler in the company.
And in a company with Punk, HBK, Jericho, Morrison, etc., that's quite amazing.
Also, I'm for a good face turn when he comes back. Seems like him and Jericho at WM seems hot, yeah?

Edge is pretty much one of the Top 10 all time greats in my books. He has had a HUGE load of amazing matches, with many different people, both as a Tag and as a singles wrestler. If he wasn't hurt he would have been Wrestler of the Year i bet.

I really like the guy. Amazing character, amazing skill set. Also legitimately built up as a talent through-out his time in WWE. I'd say he's sadly going to be under-rated though.

I cannot liken Edge to Cena at all. With Cena I've always wanted to like him but can't.
With Edge I can't not like him. His 2002-03 face run and team with Rey was good, his 04-05 comeback face run was bleh. His heel turn was superb and he's been the #1 villain since. You can't compare him to the Attitude Era as they never had any truely despised centerpoint heels except Vince and maybe HHH- every other heel got some cheers in a very shades-of-grey era. Edge has been getting some cheers lately which is probably wh yhe'll come back face, but provided he doesn't lose his, uh.....edge....he should still be great.
Not the best in ring but has decent matches with everyone and great matches with many. IMO one of the more charismatic and skillful promo guys of this era- HBK, HHH, Jericho etc. count as the prior era to me.

Flair,Bret,HBK,Sting,Steamboat,Savage,Angle,Hogan,Rock,Austin,Owen,Andre,Sammartino,Hennig,Taker I dunno if I would put him in that company just yet.

Edge is someone I've grown up with as a wrestler, from his days in the Brood with Gangrel, through his team with Christian and those brilliant tag bouts with the Hardys/Dudleys etc, to the awkward (and not so good) babyface, to the excellent Rated R Superstar.
He's gotten better as he's gotten older even with mounting injuries. If he carries on as he has and lets some more character development occur (well, should the WWE do that) then he'll definitely be in my top 10 of all time.
I mean when I think Jeff Hardy, I think tag specialist. When I think Edge, I think Rated R Superstar, to me he's gotten out of the shadow of his incredible tag team run which says a lot. Hopefully he'll be given an actual World Title run some time in the future.

He's not good, he's great. This. I just hope they don't throw away ALL of the factors that made him an awesome heel and give him this bulls*** cookie-cutter face character (I'm looking at you, John Morrison).

He's been the best performer in WWE since the Matt Hardy incident when he morphed himself into the Rated R superstar. CM Punk may have surpassed him, but I'm not sure yet.
