In a year, the vast majority of fans will barely remember that Cena/Punk ever had a match before, and even if they do, Punk can be treated as having stepped up his game to the point where it'll be the first REAL match between Cena and the new-and-improved, main eventer Punk.
And, you know, this is pro wrestling. They can always lie. You know, like how Andre the Giant was undefeated going into Wrestlemania III. And he'd never been slammed before, ever. It's physically impossible.

I thinks it's more of a this would of best been saved for a ppv attitude then that, IE: imagine flair vs micheals was done on velocity, would'nt quite have the same impact would it? Bad analogy. You're comparing the flagship show of the WWE to the bottom of the barrel show that's no longer on anymore. IMO, having a good match on tv shouldn't be seen as a waste of money. It should be seen as a way of building up the PPV. It was a bad analogy, my gist was that there could of been a big buildup for a 1st time encounter at a ppv, this does'nt of course rule out any further encounters down the road.

Not that I'm really complaining but I'd go with DX v the Hart Dynasty purely for the fact that the build up writes itself, a backstory that was never referenced once. What is it with the WWE? Usually they can't shut up about Montreal and the one time it's relevent to the match it never comes up. Why?

I voted DX/Harts...but there's still time to regroup from that one.

Also, I dont think anyone is really complaining in here, just saying its a waste of a potential money making PPV match on WWEs part. Plus, any match on free TV is probably not going to get as much time as a PPV match would, and it has no buildup as opposed to a feud going into PPV. Would Austin vs. McMahon at St. Valentines Day Massacre been as intriguing or as big of a deal if they had faced each other a couple times on RAW previously?

I actually think Cena vs Punk was an investment, in a way. I didn't think much of the idea of them wrestling before, and now I am aching for a feud.

Honestly it means they aren't going to have a Cena Punk match in a while so in due time people will want to see it when it's actually is a feud

Cena and Punk are on different shows, so I could see it being done as a way to get more people to watch the 3 hour Raw and out over how special it was having interbrand matches on free TV. It's not like thw two will cross paths all that often in the forseeable future. I will never understand why Punk & Cena was not built for PPV. I mean the match could have been a very big PPV match instead WWE dropped the ball.

Any of these matches, with proper build, could still be a big PPV match. Take Cena/Punk for example. It would be a different experience to see them face off to settle some kind of personal issue that's erupted between the two or a rivalry that's developed over time than to just see them in a brief TV match. They may have even done the match partly to test the waters for a feud between the two in the future, to see how people would react to seeing them in the ring together and what kind of chemistry they might have in front of the cameras.

Why do people complain about Raw sucking, and then bitch about giving away great matches on free tv? Well I think we all would have loved to seen a full feud instead of just being thrown out there on free tv. I'm sure we'll see it eventually. Hopfully sooner rather than later.
