1. Shedd Aquarium 2. Field Museum of Natural History 3. Lake Shore Drive 4. Go to the top of Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower) 5. Wrigleyville (although much better in summer) 6. Navy Pier (same as Wrigleyville) 7. Restaurants (Parthenon, Gibson's Steakhouse, and Gene and Georgetti just to name a few) 8. Shows (Blue Man Group and Jersey Boys are both pretty good) 9. Rush Street (if you like night clubs) 10. The Magnificent Mile (for shopping and such things)

The only things I'd add to it are Millennium Park, which isn't for everybody, and the (FREE!) Lincoln Park Zoo. As for the Park, if you just like to sit and people watch like yours truly, it's great. I'm sure that right now they have the outdoor ice skating rink all prepped up. As for another essential place to visit, any of the city's Billy Goat Taverns are pure Chicago. Chi-Town is my favorite city in the U.S., actually. I've lived in Minnesota my entire life, but I've been there many times and can never get enough of it.

You will drive right past/thru Rockford, my home. We have a great museum called Burpee, with a T-rex skeleton on display. If you have kids, or are just a huge science geek, the Discovery Center museum is right next door, and it rocks.

I'm also a Rockford, IL native and if you're a hockey fan, go check out the Rockford IceHogs. They're the AAA affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks. By my count, 9 current Hawks skated for the Hogs within the past three seasons. Come to think of it, if you can find some tickets, try and catch a Blackhawks game at the United Center. There's no experience in sports quite like the Madhouse on Madison.

When you're in Chi town, I would suggest getting some authentic Chicago Style dogs, but I can't recommend a place. Maybe someone else can help? **hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge**

I always end up going from MN to the Chicago area around summer or around Christmas.

Superdawg on the NW side has good hot dogs, although pricey. You really can't beat Portillo's though. Great food all around. Also, depending on what the weather is like (providing it's not freezing or snowing), Lincoln Park Zoo is awesome to go to. The cold really keeps the crowds away (obviously) so you really get a great chance to see a lot more than you normally would.
