I don't know how much faith I have in Julian Edelman playing Wes Welker's position. He has Welker's speed but doesn't quite have his hands. Welker's injury is a huge blow to the Pats offense and I'm not sure how well they'll do without him, even with Brady and Moss out there. There are two varying points of view in the Welker case: 1. The Patriots have become more of a running team as of late. With the exception of his fumble issues, Laurence Maroney has improved significantly, Sammy Morris has averaged 4.4 yards per carry since returning from injury, Fred Taylor is finally back and healthy, and they always have the evasive and versatile Kevin Faulk. Also, they might not be as screwed as people are leading to believe. Tom Brady led the Patriots to Super Bowls with Troy Brown, David Givens, Deion Branch, David Patten, Bethel Johnson and Fred Coleman as his primary receiving options. Julian Edelman, although a rookie, probably would've been one of his two main options on the Super Bowl XXXVI or XXXIX teams. That being said... 2. Struggling receiving corps cost the Patriots a trip to the Super Bowl in 2006. If Brady had at least one reliable receiver, the Patriots probably would have defeated the Colts and advanced to Super Bowl XLI. He had to throw to Reche Caldwell, Troy Brown, Jabar Gaffney and David Thomas in that game. Welker was his most reliable target, and at some point in the next four weeks, the Patriots will need to get a crucial first down, and instead of looking to the always reliable Welker, Brady will need to rely on the likes of Benjamin Watson, Chris Baker and Sam Aiken to save the day.

A league source tells SI.com that ex-Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis "actually might" end up as the Chiefs' offensive coordinator.

He probably plays cards better than he plays Quarterback. I think Oakland fans should put up a sign on the outskirts of their town saying 'Here's 5 million and your bought out contract, now f*** off.'

I'm sure that Tom Cable did excuse him for a personal reason; Cable was sick of seeing Russell's face and told him to skip the final meeting.

That's a bitch of a road schedule. At least they'll have Odom and the 1/2 of their defense that's on the IR back. The loss of Zimmer if he goes is really going to leave a gaping hole though. That could be huge.

The person who did the Raiders schedule failed:
- Last time they played the Colts, Rams and Texans, it was at Oakland (well, in the case of Houston, it's the last time the Raiders had to face their entire division)
- The Raiders are hosting the 49ers and Seahawks of the NFC West along with the Titans and Jaguars of the AFC South and will play @ Indianapolis, @ Houston, @ St. Louis and @ Arizona

As well as the 49ers and the Eagles game, it's believed that the Jaguars/Redskins game is to take place in the UK, probably at a different venue. 49ers/Eagles will be at Wembley Stadium.
