I've been watching the 1987 Rankin/Bass television special based on the book. After watching it once more, I think it has truly gotten better in age.
Also, it probably has one of the best themes ever.
Wind in the Willows by Judy Collins.
Anyone else remember this little classic?

Is that the one with CNR as Mr. Toad?

Is that the one with CNR as Mr. Toad? If by CNR you mean Mr. Charles Nelson Reilly, then aye, it is. In fact, here's part of the movie that also has another great song: Mr. Toad.

Ah, the Wind in the Willows ... I remember reading it after seeing The Madcap Adventures of Mr. Toad, which was the cartoon they showed before some Disney movie I went to as a kid. I never saw the Rankin/Bass version, but I think I used to watch a version that was done with stop motion that may have been a series on BBC. Thank you public television.

I had never seen any of these shows or read the book when I went to a college production of The Wind in the Willows at the age of 17. I was enjoying it well enough up to the trial of Mr. Toad, but something happened during the trial that made the evening perfect for me. The judge decided to ask the audience whether he should find him guilty or not guilty. Everyone shouted "not guilty" for about 30 seconds.
After they all quieted down, I shouted, "I say he's guilty!" The judge pointed at me and said, "I agree!! Guilty!!"
Man, that was great.

I remember the film from the mid 90s. You know the one with the surviving members of Monty Python (except for Terry Gilliam), Stephen Fry, and Steve Coogan. www.imdb.com/title/tt0118172/And with being directed and written by Terry Jones it is pretty much an unofficial Monty Python film. You know like the Ewok movies are unofficial Star Wars films.

My friends kept telling me to stay out of dark alleys for a while, just in case Mr. Toad came looking for me. ;D

He's a toad capable of lying his way out of police custody and stealing a car whilest dressed as a woman. He's an utter psycho. Plus, according to the last chapter, he's Ulysses.
