From what I understand, most people dont eat and starve themselves if they are depressed but with me when I am depressed I tend to eat more and more excessively than normal. I'm wondering which is more common amongst the people out there.

Not really. I tend to not eat as healthy when I'm depressed, just because I'm lazy. Actually, it's probably not even "healthy" as much as good food. When I'm depressed I just eat whatever's quick.
I only really over-eat when bored.
I know some who do when they're nervous, but I tend not to really eat much when I'm nervous.

It really depends. I'm usually not motivated to get food, but if some is readily handy I guess I do eat, although I tend to not enjoy or even notice the taste of it. It's more like my body is taking over for my mind and forcing me to consume just enough to survive.
My clinical depression helps keep me trim though.

Apparently it can actually relieve stress when you eat or so some study I read said. But I can see it, food does all kinds of things for us, and can help in many instances.

Eating releses endorphins and other hormones to break down the process the food. This acts as a reward and endorphins raises mood as well as energy levels. Helping to beat depression. Eating also (obvious) keeps your mind and body in much better health and condition than not eating therefore you are less likely to suffer from depression. Esspeically if you eat healthly instrad of junk food. With healthy food you will feel better and happier for longer rather than having a suger rush then ultimatly feeling worse due to the suger and blood glucose levels whioch you will get from junk food.

It depends on what I'm depressed about.

I barely eat anyway. When I'm really depressed I just stop eating altogether.

I don't eat for the longest of times and when I do, it's something like fast food or pizza.

I don't eat, if I'm depressed/sad, I always have a big lump in my throat and I find it hard to swallow anything. I really only drink when I'm thirsty, but eating pretty much leaves my mind.

Whenever I get stressed or depressed, I barely eat anything at all. Better than overeating, I say, because I don't want to put on pounds. And that will make me depressed.

When I'm depressed, I make sure even more than usual to get some kind of workout or physical activity. The direct correlation between physical activity and endorphins is a big part of it, but also the "numbed appetite" I get when depressed often can't hold up to the physiological needs post-workout. I can't help but feel thirsty, if not hungry, which makes food also more palatable. When I'm depressed, anything and everything I eat feels like it fills me up and weighs me down. But I force myself anyway.
