The kicker about Burns was that Blake's opinion of him was pretty much spot on, as opposed to the opinions of Hot Lips (too generous) or the Swampmates (too critical). Blake viewed him as an arrogant, short-tempered, selfish, pain in the ass who was moderately capable as a surgeon. The show is told mainly from the viewpoint of Hawkeye and his friends. They thought lowly of him and his skills, but if he was as incompetent as they made him out to be the 4077 would not have had a 90% survival rate if 25% of its surgeons were death on wheels. Did he take shortcuts that he should not? Yes, and it came up from time to time, but it could not have been the case all of the time if most of his patients did not die. Infection due to improper technique or inadequate removal of shrapnel. Was he an ass? Yes, but he was not useless as a surgeon. I always thought as the show kept going towards the end of Burns, they made him out to be totally incompetent and more of a cartoonish character. I agree, but he was also suffering a slow mental breakdown. I believe the last we hear of his character is being admitted to a mental hospital after jumping in a public bath to break up who he incorrectly things is Hot Lips and Penobscot.

He could've been lying, in which case he finally got one over on Hawkeye or he simply could've been delusional.

A Chaplain in the Army has a collar on his neck, If you don't listen to him, you'll all wind up in Heck!
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go home!
Oh the Surgeons in the Army, they say we're mighty bright, We work on Soldiers through the day and Nurses through the night!
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go home!
Friendships in the Army they say are mighty rare, So I spend all my free time carousing with my Mare!
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go home!
The Surgeons in the Army, they're bright they are profound, But we'll take Chopper pilots, they'll get you off the ground!
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go home!
The Corporals in the Army, you say we're really green, But if it weren't for us guys you'd be in the Latrine!
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go home!
Oh some guys like the Army, I say that it's a mess, If it's so damn terrific, how come I wear a dress?
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go home!
Oh some Nurses in the Army, they haven't tied the knot, But this one's gonna try it, with Donald Penobscott!
Oh I don't want no more of Army life! Gee Ma I want to go, but they won't let me go, Gee Ma I wanna go home!
Oh Hawkeye and BJ, they think they're pretty smart! I'd like to take a scalpel and stab them through the heart!

some of my favorite epsiodes of M*A*S*H 1.) The one where Radar gets shot and Hawkeye operates. I especially loved the way Radar went off on him, 2.)Hawkeye is presumed dead and basically spends the whole episode trying to get in touch with his dad to let him know that he is alive. 3.) The episode where Hawkeye's father sends him a note about him needing an operation, and Hawkeye starts panicking in a way and then we get to see a softer side of Winchester as he talks to Hawkeye about his own relationship with his father. and my favorite moments on any M*A*S*H is the final movie and Winchester's dealing with the gropu of men as they are trying to play a piece of classical music. I also liked the Father Mulcahy having to deal with his deafness as well edity I would like to post my favorite characters from Mthe show as well Sidney freeman Col Flagg Klinger father Mulcahy f*** yeah Col. Flagg is awesome! Glad someone else recognizes!

I absolutely love the fact that Flagg was obviously pretty good at sneaking around discreetly, as he'd always appear in Blake/Potter's office without warning, but as good as he was he would always say something absolutely ludicrous, implying he was an idiot, but do so with such firm conviction that it takes a second to realise what he's said.

I've been a fan for nearly 10 years. Its a shame that I can't really find any channels that carry it anymore.

I loved the episodes where a newsman was interviewing the camp. The one line with Potter talking about spooning with his wife was awesome.

The only episodes I get overcritical of are some of the "novelty" episodes that are "cool effects" upon first viewing, I guess, but having seen the series in its entirety MULTIPLE MULTIPLE times, they are really contrived and get old REALLY fast and do not fit at all with the other episodes. In effect, I usually just sigh and say, "Gee, I *guess* I'll watch it; can't wait until it's over." Examples: the guy who dies and no one can hear his "ghost." (lame) And the point-of-view episode where the guy can't talk and then says "Thank ... you" at the end. Boo'urns! Sorry, it really is the best sitcom of all-time, I think, but I just thought I'd vent a tad. I realize that most people LOVE those particular episodes, but like I said, they're just novelty episodes that really bother me as a multiple-time viewer.

Such a great series. I got the Martinis and Medicine Collection DVD Set for Christmas. So much M*A*S*H to watch. Bliss... I have to ask... There was an episode earlier in the series where Harry Morgan appears as a general who flipped his lid (third season, "The General Flipped At Dawn"). I clearly remember the epilogue of the show, where Hawk, Trap and Henry are dancing around the Swamp, singing the song that the General was singing at the court martial. They NEVER show that ending when it's on TV... I've seen it in the show where they were remembering Henry and introducing Col. Potter but there is a voice-over. Do they show the original, complete show? (Oh, and in Canada they play "M*A*S*H" on History Television.)

One of the cool things I was liked about was seeing now famous actors when they were younger and just guest stars on it. Ron Howard, Patrick Swayze, John Ritter, George Wendt, Laurence Fishburne and probably a bunch of other people I forgot about all guest starred on the show.

I don't think it was so much what they made Burns, it what they didn't make Burns. By that point you had the characters evolving(Hawkeye, Hot Lips, Radar) or even different(Potter, BJ). The show was very different. But Frank really never changed. He was Frank from season 1. He just was out of place, like a guy on your block who doesn't change with the times.
